Perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System’s philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy Standard of Care and Employee Code of Conduct. Field supervisors also perform clerical and maintenance duties and act as preceptors of EMT and Paramedic students. Supervisors are responsible for daily routine and pre‑hospital care setting, make operational decisions in the absence of the Manager‑Regional EMS or Supervisor‑Operations, and instruct EMT and Paramedic on in‑service training, education and driving. The incumbent will carry out his/her responsibilities and integrate into the Mercy philosophy of caring for the sick and suffering, respect for human life, and the dignity of each person, applying Christian values to all crucial human issues in the area over which he/she has responsibility. Performs related duties as assigned.

Position Details:

• Licensure: Paramedic (EMT‑P license for the state of practice, valid driver’s license)
• Age requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
• Certifications / Registration: Hazmat awareness level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer
• Physical requirements: Ability to respond quickly to ambulance calls, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, carry equipment and patients with a partner, perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions, perform required medical skills and techniques, correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determination of skin and blood color, read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes, hear and understand information from patients, families, or bystanders, hear breath sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressures, differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments, hear radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens, speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, communicate verbally with patients, families, and other emergency service personnel; passing pre‑hire and annual fitness for duty test
• Equipment used: Mobile and portable communications equipment, monitor/defibrillator/pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, fax, printer and other office related equipment
• Preferred education: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
• Preferred licensure: TLS Provider
• Preferred experience: Emergency Services or related leadership experience; 3 years Paramedic experience; teaching experience
• Preferred certifications/registration: NIMS 300 and 400
