Job summary

Schindler Elevator Corporation in Seattle, WA is seeking a Field Superintendent – Modernization to lead field technicians through hydraulic, gearless, and geared elevator modernization projects. You will actively participate in field surveys, prepare proposals and bids, determine scope and manpower, and order parts.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree or 3 years in the elevator industry, with supervisory experience in a union environment, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of technical experience in the elevator industry or related field.
  • Experience in the installation and service of elevators/escalators.
  • Prior supervisory experience with a unionized workforce.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field technicians in modernization projects and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Plan field surveys, prepare modernization proposals and bids, determine scope and manpower.
  • Order parts and manage inventory to support timely project execution.
  • Ensure safety, quality standards, and contract requirements on each project.
  • Support local sales in estimating bids and resolving customer issues.
  • Foster teamwork and participate in professional development programs.

Role: Field Superintendent – Modernization
Main Responsibilities

The candidate will manage field technicians in the day‑to‑day operations of installing hydraulic, gearless, and geared elevator modernizations. Responsibilities include actively participating in field surveys, preparing modernization proposals and bids, determining scope and manpower needs, identifying correct parts, and ordering these parts.

  • Build a team environment by leading field technicians
  • Manage training and development of field technicians on established processes, tools and standards
  • Foster excellent communication among team members while maintaining good relationships with the local union
  • Ensure each modernization project meets company quality and safety standards and all contract requirements
  • Monitor job completion and drive efficiency
  • Implement customer and company requirements for quality, performance reliability and passenger safety for modernization projects
  • Support the local sales team in estimating modernization bids and resolving customer complaints
  • Develop teamwork and dedication to quality among all employees
  • Participate in company professional development programs to enhance knowledge of elevator products, services and procedures
Base Salary

$113,400 – $141,700 (typical range, may be adjusted based on experience, education, location, skills, and business priorities). This figure represents base salary only and does not include commissions or incentives.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of technical experience in the elevator industry or a related field
  • Preferred: Experience in the installation and service of elevators/escalators
  • Preferred: Prior supervisory experience with a unionized workforce
  • Computer proficiency required; experience with Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and SAP preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
