Job summary

The University of Missouri invites applications for the Human Development and Family Sciences Specialist (Field Specialist in Human Development) to plan, implement, and evaluate education programs in parenting, family strengthening, mental health awareness, adolescence, aging, and early childhood care and education.

This 12‑month, ranked, non‑tenure track appointment is based in Lebanon, Missouri with statewide service and travel across Missouri.

Qualifications

  • Earned PhD or master's degree at appointment.
  • Ability to translate research into educational programs for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in youth/adult education.
  • Administrative and leadership experience managing fiscal, human, and data resources.
  • Strong teaching strategies and communication skills.
  • Experience using technology in education delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs in parenting, family strengthening, mental health awareness, adolescence, aging, and/or early childhood care and education.
  • Create an annual plan‑of‑work reflecting local needs and statewide program area efforts; provide monthly impact reports.
  • Collaborate with campus‑based specialists on research projects and disseminate findings via demonstrations, field days, courses, workshops, consultations, publications, and media.
  • Work with other specialists to serve the needs of the headquarters county and ensure promotional materials are provided ahead of programming.
  • Complete administrative tasks in coordination with supervisors and local leaders.
  • Demonstrate competency in communication, educational programming, subject‑matter knowledge, delivery, volunteer management, grant acquisition, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Offer timely, research‑based information during natural disasters or similar events.
  • Represent the University on boards and committees as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development events to improve technical and leadership skills.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support MU Extension’s mission.
