FirstLight is seeking a Field Services Technician to support copper and fiber installations for residential and business customers across Oxford Networks d/b/a FirstLight Fiber. The role covers copper and fiber installation, testing, and on-site problem resolution in a fast-paced environment.

You will handle after-hours calls, operate a bucket truck, and collaborate with contractors during outages while maintaining accurate records and complying with safety standards.

Field Services Technician

Salary Range: $25.00 To $35.00 Annually

Summary:

This position will require technical skills to support the installation of Residential and Business customers on Oxford Networks d/b/a FirstLight Fiber’s Copper and FTTP networks. This work includes copper and fiber Optic installation and repair, network installation, repair and maintenance, customer premise wiring, customer voice services and testing high speed data circuits. This position requires a self-motivated person with a positive, customer focused attitude that excels in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Some expected duties include, but are not limited to:

• Copper & Fiber Optic Installations for Residential and Businesses
• Installation and splicing of aerial and underground copper & fiber drops.
• Repair & Maintenance on Copper & Fiber Optic Networks.
• Installation and repair of copper cables, fiber optic cables, aerial closures, snaps, buried kits, pedestals, smart coils, subscriber line cards, repeaters, and noise coils.
• Responds to after-hour calls (24/7/365) regarding downed lines, broken poles, outages etc.
• Operates a Bucket Truck for aerial operations, removing trees from lines and equipment.
• Works with Contractors during major outages.
• Testing & troubleshooting copper cables with a Dynatel 965AMS, HST, Fluke, Meggar and Sidekick.
• Testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables with an OTDR and light meters
• Installation and testing of ADSL and SADSL.
• Programming customer premise equipment such as Routers
• Central Office Wiring.
• May require locating underground cable for dig safes.
• Team orientated ethics with a positive attitude.
• Maintain accurate records and report them to Dispatch.
• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPENTENCIES

• Must possess excellent communication skills.
• Must possess a positive, winning attitude.
• Customer premise wiring experience
• Copper testing experience
• OTDR experience
• Must be able to operate a Bucket Truck and able to work at high heights.
• Must be able to operator tools such as a chain saw.
• Must be able to lift 100-150 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders.
• Must be able to withstand all types of weather conditions.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces.
• Must be able to rotate through a weekly on-call list.
• Must possess a clean Maine Driver’s License.
• Must pass drug testing and criminal and driving record background checks.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Field Service Technician experience a plus.
• Computer knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have valid and unencumbered driving license.
• Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
• Must be honest and ethical in all dealings.
• Must present professional appearance and demeanor.

LIGHT DUTY ASSIGNMENTS:

There is no light duty assignment available for this position.

SHIFT SCHEDULE:

This is an hourly position. This role is part of an On-Call Rotation (will require some after hours and weekend work). Travel as necessary throughout the ILEC territory in Maine.
