Summary:
The Field Service Engineer is a home-based position located in Minnesota. In this role, you will provide technical guidance and comprehensive after-sales support to customers throughout your assigned territory. You will serve as a primary point of contact for technical issues, perform on-site installation and repair services, and help customers maximize the performance and reliability of their laser equipment.
This position requires 75% or more domestic travel.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, providing support by phone, email, chat, and on-site visits.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and operational issues involving fiber laser machines.
- Track customer requests, technical issues, service activities, and resolutions.
- Manage service schedules and proactively follow up with customers throughout the assigned territory.
- Help customers optimize the operation, performance, and reliability of their laser equipment.
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs at customer locations and determine whether specialized tools, parts, or additional resources are required.
- Read and interpret equipment layout drawings, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints during installation and service activities.
- Develop and maintain recommended replacement-parts lists and help ensure required parts are available by coordinating with customers, internal teams, vendors, and manufacturers.
- Identify and report equipment-related safety concerns.
- Provide customers with equipment operation, maintenance, and safety training.
- Prepare accurate and timely service reports, technical documentation, and expense reports.
- Conduct failure mode analyses and recommend equipment upgrades or corrective actions.
- Support the final integration and commissioning of complex automation projects as needed.
- Assist with equipment handling and heavy mechanical moves, including loading and unloading equipment from trucks, as needed.
- Travel regularly throughout the assigned territory and to other domestic locations when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate degree in mechatronics, automation engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent education and experience.
- Recent hands-on experience installing, repairing, maintaining, or troubleshooting automated CNC machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Ability to use appropriate diagnostic tools and test equipment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated technical writing and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as remote communication and support tools.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, dependable, organized, and accountable.
- Ability to remain effective under pressure and manage multiple customer priorities.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently, including local and domestic travel.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, automation engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
- At least two years of relevant experience working with automated CNC machinery.
- Experience with fiber laser cutting systems, industrial automation, or related manufacturing equipment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese.
