Job description

A growing industrial automation organization is looking to add a Field Service Engineer to support customer facilities throughout Greater Jacksonville, Florida.

This is a hands-on troubleshooting role focused on resolving automation, controls, electrical, and equipment-related issues in the field. It is not primarily a controls-design position. PLC programs are generally already developed, but you must be able to review ladder logic, trace inputs and outputs, configure system components, and identify the source of equipment problems.

Most assignments are expected to be within daily driving distance.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Troubleshoot industrial automation, electrical, and control-system issues at customer facilities
  • Review PLC ladder logic to understand equipment sequences and identify faults
  • Work with PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial networks
  • Configure HMI tags, alarms, device settings, and network parameters
  • Diagnose whether problems are related to programming, electrical components, communications, or equipment
  • Support equipment startup, testing, commissioning, and system verification
  • Read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, control-panel schematics, and technical manuals
  • Replace, configure, and test automation and electrical components
  • Communicate findings, progress, and recommended next steps to customers
  • Document service activity, troubleshooting steps, and system changes
  • Coordinate with Controls Engineers when advanced programming or system redesign is required
  • Follow customer and site safety requirements
What You Bring
  • Experience in industrial automation, controls maintenance, electrical maintenance, or field service
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic
  • Hands‑on experience with PLCs, HMIs, drives, control panels, sensors, or industrial networks
  • Strong electrical and equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or another major PLC platform
  • Ability to isolate issues before escalating them
  • Strong customer communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently in active industrial environments
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory
Nice to Have (Not Required)
  • Experience with equipment startup or commissioning
  • Exposure to industrial instrumentation and communication networks
  • Experience configuring HMI tags, alarms, or device settings
  • Background supporting manufacturing or process‑control environments
  • Technical, trade‑school, or military training related to electrical or automation systems
Education

Technical degree, industry training, military technical experience, or equivalent hands‑on experience.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is not a position where you will spend most of the day designing complete control systems. It is a field‑based troubleshooting role for someone who enjoys working directly with customers, identifying equipment problems, and getting systems back into operation.

The strongest candidate will be comfortable reviewing PLC logic and working around industrial automation systems while also knowing when an issue requires support from a Controls Engineer
