Field Service Technician

Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Department: Field Service

Site: Walmart in Smyrna, DE

Position Summary

The Field Service Technician will support our fuel cell products installed in electric lift trucks, including performing preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. Responsibilities include installation, servicing, reporting breakdown events, parts ordering, and maintenance of fuel cells at a specific location. This role involves significant interaction with customer personnel and electric lift truck operators, requiring excellent technical, communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and service fuel cells at customer sites.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to ensure fleet performance at a specific location.
  • Execute specialized service procedures, including field retrofits and upgrades to fuel cells.
  • Provide on-call and emergency support to customers as needed.
  • Procure tools, equipment, and parts necessary for customer support.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain high-pressure hydrogen storage, 480VAC systems, and related fueling systems.
  • Communicate with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers regarding fuel cell support.
  • Provide feedback to regional service teams on fuel cell performance and maintenance issues.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as incident reports, service logs, and inventory documentation.
  • Follow and enforce safety procedures in the field and at customer sites.
  • Travel as required, driving safely and adhering to traffic laws.
  • Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with technical electrical coursework preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, or formal training in lieu of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record and ability to operate a vehicle safely.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly unassisted.
  • Knowledge of lift truck operation is highly preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and proficiency with computer software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and solve technical problems creatively.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dedicated to quality work.
  • Must provide own standard tools; specific fuel cell tools will be provided by Plug Power.
Pay Rate

$24.00 - $28.00 per hour
