Position Summary
The Lead Field Service Technician is a fully proficient, senior-level mentorship and leadership role responsible for one or more operational compression jobs. This includes direct responsibility for the operation of compressor packages, gas processes, and rentals. The role involves providing feedback for developing operational policies and material forecasts, possessing advanced diagnostic and repair skills, and occasionally backfilling the Area Manager or mentoring new hires and other field staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform job activities in line with Kodiak’s procedures, goals, and objectives. Act as an informal mentor and leader.
- Participate in all HSE activities with expert knowledge of procedures and policies. Serve as a Safety Expert and role model.
- Troubleshoot complex repairs, major equipment overhauls, and operations.
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues.
- Build and maintain customer relationships.
- Assist the Area Manager with personnel planning and provide input for budget planning.
- Manage parts and supply inventory to ensure optimal job performance.
- Ensure equipment availability of 98% or better through corrective actions.
- Maintain assigned units in a clean and presentable condition.
- Complete required reports and adhere to operating procedures.
- Provide guidance and leadership to lower-level technicians, supporting scheduling and mentoring.
- Provide 24/7 coverage, including overtime and on-call rotations, with availability after hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Backfill the Area Manager when necessary.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Training
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred: OEM, Trade School, and/or 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Completion of Kodiak’s SSE program and at least 3 years in an intermediate technician role.
- Deep knowledge of gas processes and motor compressors (Waukesha, Ariel, Caterpillar, etc.).
- 5+ years of experience in compression, production, or related fields.
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Complete knowledge of compressor packages and systems.
- Basic understanding of area financials and business workflows.
- Mentorship and leadership training.
- Core competencies include teamwork, communication, mechanical aptitude, self-motivation, interpersonal skills, initiative, planning, problem-solving, and customer focus.
- Knowledge of HSE procedures and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
- Certifications: Cat, Waukesha, Ariel (preferred).
- English language proficiency.
Physical Demands
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Stand for up to 75%, sit for up to 25%.
- Climb ladders/stairs, maintain balance.
- Communicate effectively in person and via phone.
- Lift at least 10 lbs., occasionally >50 lbs.
- Work in high noise environments with PPE.
- Potential exposure to chemicals.
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures.
- Position involves various physical movements and PPE usage.
