Job Description - FS Technician III - Chicago, IL - REQ 1033

IMPORTANT: In order to qualify for this position, you must have experience commissioning (Level 1-4) LV/MV Electrical Switchgear. Network Switches/Routers/Telecom/IT switches are not Electrical Switchgear.

IEM (Industrial Electric Mfg.) is the largest independent full-line manufacturer of custom electrical distribution and power quality equipment in North America. IEM delivers customer-specific solutions to meet the evolving power requirements of growth industries worldwide. This position offers an exciting opportunity within an innovative, growing company, with a backlog of bookings extending beyond 3 years.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This role is responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining IEM and non-IEM products. It is based at locations without a dedicated service office or production facility, requiring experience and independence working at customer sites performing field service on power products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide product/field service expertise, supporting complex power and control systems.
  • Travel to customer sites to complete commissioning independently or lead a team to meet deadlines.
  • Travel to IEM manufacturing or field service offices for training, factory witness/testing, or other activities.
  • Attend site meetings and walk-throughs.
  • Identify project risks and safety hazards onsite.
  • Assist with project start-up and punch list resolution, collaborating with Project Managers to ensure completion.
  • Report quality issues to manufacturing, working with production and engineering to resolve deficiencies.
  • Coordinate with Field Service Lead to schedule additional resources.
  • Lead or supervise site or client commissioning when directed, mentoring junior engineers or technicians on large projects.
  • Accurately record time and complete field service and expense reports promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:

  • Supervise junior technicians or manufacturing team members when leading a site requiring additional commissioning resources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding hazards related to LV/MV equipment commissioning; safety-conscious approach.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer interaction.
  • Up to 70% travel; deployments over 100 miles from base not exceeding 2 weeks.
