Job summary

Kelvion seeks a Senior Field Service Technician to lead installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of Air Fin Coolers, Dry Coolers, and related heat transfer equipment across multiple sites. You will mentor technicians, support engineering, and serve as the primary customer representative on critical projects.

Qualifications

  • Expert mechanical troubleshooting of rotating equipment and heat exchangers.
  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting including three‑phase motors, EC motors, VFDs, sensors, and controls.
  • Commissioning and startup experience for mission‑critical cooling equipment.
  • Excellent customer communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic service reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, P&ID, and control drawings.
  • Proficient in oxy‑acetylene brazing of copper and steel components.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding for field repairs and structural modifications.
  • Travel approximately 80% domestically and internationally as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, hydronic, and controls systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, fan assemblies, motors, EC motors, VFDs, sensors, and control systems.
  • Perform advanced field repairs utilizing brazing, soldering, and welding techniques on heat exchanger components, piping, structural members, and ancillary equipment in accordance with Kelvion procedures and applicable industry standards.
  • Evaluate damaged equipment and determine whether field welding or brazing repairs are appropriate or if component replacement is required.
  • Perform structural modifications and minor fabrication to support field installations, retrofits, and emergency repairs.
  • Inspect completed welds and brazed joints to ensure quality, structural integrity, and leak‑free operation.
  • Lead and mentor Field Service Technicians I and II.
  • Coordinate activities with Engineering, Quality, Sales, Project Management, and customer personnel.
  • Provide customer training, technical presentations, and detailed service reports with repair recommendations.
  • Maintain strict compliance with OSHA, LOTO, JHA, fall protection, hot work permit, PPE, and customer safety requirements.

Job description

Serves as the senior field service technical expert responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and maintenance of Kelvion Air Fin Coolers, Dry Coolers, and related heat transfer equipment. Leads complex field assignments, mentors technicians, supports engineering, and serves as the primary customer representative on critical projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, hydronic, and controls systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, fan assemblies, motors, EC motors, VFDs, sensors, and control systems.
  • Perform advanced field repairs utilizing brazing, soldering, and welding techniques on heat exchanger components, piping, structural members, and ancillary equipment in accordance with Kelvion procedures and applicable industry standards.

  • Products: Air Fin Coolers – gearboxes, bearings, fan balancing, laser alignment, vibration analysis, structural repairs, drive systems.
  • Products: Dry Coolers – EC motors, VFDs, controls, BMS interfaces, hydronic systems, pumps, commissioning, thermal performance.
  • Products: Plate Heat Exchangers – complete plate pack rebuilds, gasket replacement, pressure testing, thermal performance, CIP, piping, flow analysis.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert mechanical troubleshooting of rotating equipment and heat exchangers.
  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting including three‑phase motors, EC motors, VFDs, sensors, and controls.
  • Commissioning and startup experience for mission‑critical cooling equipment.

  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick (SMAW) welding for field repairs and structural modifications.
  • Ability to safely operate welding and cutting equipment in industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of welding safety, hot work permits, and fire watch requirements.
  • Travel approximately 80% domestically and internationally as required.
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Five to ten years of industrial field service experience with Air Fin Coolers, Dry Coolers, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, HVAC, power generation, refineries, or data centers.
  • Demonstrated experience performing industrial welding and/or brazing repairs is required or strongly preferred.
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Five to ten years of industrial field service experience with Air Fin Coolers, Dry Coolers, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, HVAC, power generation, refineries, or data centers.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • Forklift Certification
