Position Summary

As a Field Service Technician III at Adaptec Solutions, you are a senior, highly trusted technical resource responsible for independently executing complex installation, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection work across a broad range of electro‑mechanical and automated material handling systems. This role goes beyond execution – Technician IIIs are expected to lead on‑site service activities (when working with other techs), diagnose advanced mechanical and electrical issues with minimal direction, and serve as a technical mentor to Field Service Technician I and II team members.

Technicians in this role work directly with customers in high‑volume warehouse, manufacturing, and distribution environments, supporting systems such as conveyor and sortation systems, motors, gearboxes, VFDs, sensors, control panels, 480V electrical systems, lifts, hoists, and automated subsystems. You will manage demanding field environments, make sound technical decisions in real time, clearly communicate findings and repair plans, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to customer expectations.

This role is ideal for technicians who thrive in complex problem‑solving environments, take pride in craftsmanship, and are comfortable acting as the on‑site technical lead while representing Adaptec with professionalism and confidence.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform advanced installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair of electro‑mechanical and automated material handling systems, including but not limited to:
  • Conveyor and sortation systems (belt, roller, accumulation, merge, divert, transfer systems)
  • Motors, gearboxes, couplings, chains, sprockets, bearings, belts, rollers, and mechanical drives
  • Electrical systems up to and including 480V, 3‑phase power, contactors, relays, fuses, sensors, photo eyes, and motor starters
  • Control panels, electrical enclosures, and field wiring
  • Dock equipment, lifts, hoists, material lifts, and cranes
  • Lead diagnostic efforts on complex mechanical and electrical issues, determining corrective actions, required parts, repair timelines, and follow‑up needs with minimal oversight.
  • Conduct detailed inspections, system evaluations, and performance testing to ensure equipment functionality, safety, and compliance.
  • Perform mechanical work including fabrication, adjustments, alignment, and welding (MIG/TIG/Stick) as required to complete repairs.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, precision instruments, and measurement devices such as multi‑meters, calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other test equipment to analyze system performance.
  • Respond to emergency and after‑hours service calls as required by customer needs; all travel time is compensated.
  • Provide technical guidance, informal mentorship, and on‑the‑job support to Field Service Technician I and II team members during service calls.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and internal leadership regarding equipment status, repair recommendations, timelines, and follow‑up actions.
  • Accurately document all work performed using Adaptec’s service reporting systems (Field Service Reports, inspection forms, audit documentation).
  • Follow and promote strict adherence to customer safety requirements, Adaptec safety policies, and OSHA standards; always operate under the most stringent safety protocol.
  • Work independently to complete service work efficiently while recognizing when escalation to leadership or engineering support is required.
  • Support other service teams and perform additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational, technical, or trade school education preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and industrial field service work.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot advanced electrical systems, including 3‑phase power, controls, and electrical distribution.
  • Strong electro‑mechanical reasoning and diagnostic capability.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and detailed technical drawings.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, precision measurement instruments, power tools, and industrial equipment including forklifts, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Welding and fabrication experience required or strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to comply with DOT regulations and pass DOT physical.
  • Ability to travel as required, including occasional overnight stays and weekend work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with customers, peers, and management.
  • Must have basic hand tools (Adaptec provides specialty tools and equipment).
  • Ability to exert 50–100 lbs of force occasionally and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
What We Offer
