Job summary

Asplundh Tree Expert Co is seeking a Field Service Technician II to perform installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of power transformers and high voltage substation equipment. You will support field operations, including transformer assembly, oil processing, gasket work, and basic electrical/mechanical testing under supervision.

The role requires 2+ years in transformer services or electrical/mechanical field maintenance, a high school diploma, and the ability to travel up to 80%,

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in transformer services, substation work, or electrical/mechanical field maintenance
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
• Ability to travel frequently (up to ~80%), including overnight stays
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
• Outdoor, high voltage, industrial environments
• Ability to read or willingness to learn electrical diagrams, one-lines, and field metering devices
• CDL or interest in obtaining one
• NCCCO crane certification or rigging/lifting experience
• Familiarity with substation hazards, LOTO procedures, grounding, and arc-flash boundaries

Responsibilities

• Follow company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements; participate in all safety meetings and training.
• Perform intermediate level field work including LOTO, grounding, arc-flash protocols, and site preparation.
• Assist with transformer electrical testing by supporting diagnostics, data collection, and proper test setup.
• Operate dry air equipment and support moisture control processes during transformer assembly.
• Measure, cut, and install gaskets and sealing components.
• Assist with transformer internal work such as inspections, fastener adjustments, and component support.
• Support vacuum setup and operation during transformer processing activities.
• Oversee rig operations during overnight or extended shifts, ensuring safe and compliant performance.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of monitoring devices such as Calisto or other condition-monitoring systems.

Pay:

The hourly rate for this position is between $27.00 - $35.00 per hour.

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Position Overview

Qualifications

Required:

• Two or more years of experience in transformer services, substation work, or electrical/mechanical field maintenance
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely in outdoor, high voltage, and industrial environments
• Willing and able to travel frequently (up to ~80%), including overnight stays and variable schedules
• Willingness to complete job-related background checks and medical evaluations
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow written and verbal instructions

Preferred:

• CDL or interest in obtaining one
• NCCCO crane certification or rigging/lifting experience
• Working knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and industrial tools
• Familiarity with substation hazards, LOTO procedures, grounding, and arc-flash boundaries
• Ability to read or willingness to learn to read electrical diagrams, one-lines, and field metering devices
• Interest in learning transformer testing, oil-processing support, and advanced procedures
