Job summary

RMS Energy is seeking Field Service Technicians to test, maintain, and commission HV systems at power plants and industrial sites across the continental U.S. You will work with relays, transformers, breakers, and SCADA, collecting data and ensuring safe, reliable operation.

The role requires 0–1 year of power systems testing or commissioning experience, a high school diploma, and willingness to travel up to 75%. Strong safety practices and ability to read schematics are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–1 year experience in power systems testing, troubleshooting, or commissioning.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% across the continental U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to undergo background checks and drug tests.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and one-line diagrams.
  • NETA Level II certification preferred or actively pursued.

Responsibilities

  • Test, maintain, and collect data on low to high voltage systems (480V–600kV) including breakers, relays, switchgear, cables, and transformers.
  • Run standard field tests (TTR, insulation resistance, Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi-Pot).
  • Test relays (electromechanical and solid-state) with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot control circuits, relay logic, and protection schemes.
  • Function check control panels, trip/alarm circuits, and SCADA signal integrity.
  • Support commissioning activities and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Read and interpret schematics, drawings, manuals, and one-line diagrams.
  • Communicate with customers on-site and provide timely job updates.
  • Keep accurate reports, logs, and equipment calibration records.
  • Follow all RMS Energy and site safety procedures (Lockout/Tagout, PPE, JHA).
  • Mentor Tech I team members on procedures and safe practices.
