Field Service Technician I – Riverdale, IL

Airgas, a leading supplier of industrial gases and ammonia, is hiring a Field Service Technician I located in Riverdale, IL. The technician will support field service and plant operations, ensuring safe recovery and maintenance of ammonia systems across a 350‑mile route.

Location

Riverdale, IL (ASP) – Ammonia production & filling. 95% travel required with flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Airgas field service team and plant operations, acting as a collaborative partner in daily goals.
• Work with customers and corporate staff to nurture solutions and build alignment regarding various systems and processes.
• Carefully manage the recovery of ammonia liquid and vapor from multiple sources, including refrigeration systems, storage tanks, and pipelines, ensuring environmental and team safety.
• Steward the installation and care of ammonia tanks, piping, and pumps to ensure long‑term reliability and excellence.
• Provide support and share technical insights with the Airgas Specialty Products sales team.
• Maintain proper parts inventory in service vans and the warehouse to support a seamless workflow for the entire team.
• Thoughtfully record activities via work orders and service agreements to ensure transparency and quality of service.
• Maintain a professional and welcoming environment through interactions and daily presence.
• Ensure vehicle safety and reliability by keeping trucks, trailers, and vans in excellent and secure condition for the well‑being of everyone on the road.
• Maintain site‑specific training records with attention to detail, supporting a culture of continuous learning and safety.

Required Qualifications

• At least 25 years old.
• Class A CDL with at least 2 years of CMV experience within the last 4 years; tanker/hazmat endorsements required before hiring.
• Graduation from an accredited truck driving school with a diploma equates to 1 year of required experience.
• No preventable accidents in the last 3 years.
• No more than 2 minor tickets in the previous 3 years.
• No serious violation ticket (speeding 15+, reckless driving, etc.) in the previous 3 years.
• No suspensions of CDL in the previous 3 years except for "Failure to pay child support."
• No DUI in the last 7 years.
• Must be able to lift 60 lbs. or more.
• High school diploma, technical diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tanker experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ammonia experience.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay: $42.46/hr.
• Safety Bonus Pay: up to $1,500 annually.
• Per Diem: up to $10,000 annually (200 nights/yr x $55).
• Hotel and Travel Accommodations: covered by Airgas.
• Referral Bonus Pay: $1,000.
• Paid weekly via direct deposit.
• Schedule: 95% travel, must be flexible.
• Route Coverage Area: up to a 350‑mile radius.
• Equipment: CDL A Bulk Tanker.
