Overview

Sign-on bonus up to $5,000 is available for experienced Heavy Equipment Field Technicians. Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring Field Service Technicians for Heavy Equipment operations in Richmond, Virginia for All Shifts. The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing expert level diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of all engine/components regardless of model/maker at customer jobsites. Candidates with a minimum of four years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment are preferred; must have experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Note on sign-on bonuses: Minimum of three years relevant heavy equipment field experience is required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are paid in two equal installments at 90 days and 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert level diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of engines/components on heavy equipment at customer sites.
  • Repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines.
  • Interact with customers professionally and maintain positive customer experience.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; prioritize workload and provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and apply new knowledge; proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals.
  • Possess and maintain an excellent driving record and valid Commercial Driver's license or the ability to obtain one; DOT certification with DOT Medical Card as required.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and accommodate overtime and varying shifts to meet business and customer demands.
Qualifications
  • Minimum four years' experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred; must have experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum three years relevant heavy equipment field experience to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus; less than 3 years eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical and related components to troubleshoot and analyze high-level problems quickly.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to repair in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Self-directed, well organized, and capable of prioritizing workload while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to interact with customers professionally and maintain a positive customer experience.
  • Proficiency in technical software, databases and manuals.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. Repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto, and under heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. This job description is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned.
