Location: Cincinnati, OH

Position Summary:

As a Field Service Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining and troubleshooting advanced industrial 3D printing equipment. You’ll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of additive manufacturing processes while developing specialized expertise in the systems and components that align with your strengths. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and is excited to grow with a collaborative, forward-thinking team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional service and support to customers, prioritizing machine uptime and performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of AddUp’s equipment, including:
  • Electrical and automation systems (PLC-based)
  • Mechanical assemblies and drive mechanisms
  • Laser and optical systems
  • Pneumatic, cooling, and inert gas systems
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues with a focus on minimizing customer downtime
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts on-site and remotely, particularly for automation and control system issues.
  • Participate in the installation and commissioning of AddUp machines at customer locations.
  • Provide technical training to internal teams, subcontractors, and customer personnel.
  • Collaborate with AddUp’s engineering and support teams in France to resolve escalated issues and provide feedback on equipment performance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our service processes, documentation, and technical knowledge base.
  • Support the development of company culture by actively sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues.
  • Stay adaptable and willing to cross-train in other technical areas as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field such as mechanical, electrical, or electronics engineering. Strong equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with automation and machine control systems, with strong troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PLC troubleshooting—ideally with Beckhoff/TwinCAT and/or Siemens 840D platforms
  • Electrical, controls, and mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience, including work with complex industrial machinery.
  • Strong ability to think and work autonomously, perform under pressure, and logically troubleshoot technical systems and processes.
  • Interest and physical fitness to work directly with additive manufacturing technology in both a lab setting and customer facilities.
  • Appreciation for and exposure to additive post-processing methods, such as heat treatment and conventional machining, is a plus.
  • Although prior experience in metal or other Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes is preferred, it is not required.
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for learning advanced technologies, including machine design, simulation, data acquisition, and sensor-based systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in technical reporting, customer correspondence, and presentations
  • Proficient in planning and organizing work effectively, with a structured and detail-oriented approach.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to a positive team dynamic.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive customer relationships, using sound judgment and professionalism when providing feedback or suggestions.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a willingness to support small sales or service opportunity development.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently—sometimes for extended periods—for installations, service, and customer support at locations across North America, including national laboratories and research institutions.
