Job summary

USA Compression Partners, LP is seeking a Field Service Technician to service and maintain customer-owned compression equipment across multiple sites. This role reports to the 3rd Party Services Supervisor and requires safe, autonomous work with strong customer relationships. Ideal candidates have 2+ years in gas compression, CAT/Cummins experience, and a valid U.S.

Qualifications

  • Technical or trade school certification or related field experience.
  • At least 2 years in gas compression preferred; CAT/Ariel/Cummins certs valued.
  • Ability to legally work in the U.S. and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and overhaul tasks on compression equipment.
  • Follow safety and environmental policies and company handbook.
  • Prepare data for unit operation reports by deadlines.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from supervisor or customers.
  • Support major repairs with customer and supervisor; escalate per protocol.
  • Operate company vehicle and maintain its condition.
  • Collaborate with sales to identify new equipment opportunities.
  • Coordinate with parts to ensure availability of components.
  • Maintain clean work areas and ensure safe conditions.
  • Work with various engine types and equipment related to compression systems.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.

Job description

Key Business Objectives:

Field Service Technician (Retail/3 rd Party AMS) is responsible for the service and/or maintenance of customer owned compression equipment and reports to the 3 rd Party Services Supervisor. With minimal supervision and significant autonomy, the expected areas of responsibility include, safely performing scheduled maintenance, maintaining and building customer relationships, and providing first line support for equipment troubleshooting. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and overhaul-related tasks on compression equipment.
  • Understand and follow the company handbook along with all company/customer safety and environmental policies.
  • Accurately gather and prepare data for reports critical to unit operations by assigned deadlines.
  • Respond quickly to supervisor or customer inquiries.
  • Work closely with the customer and supervisor on major repairs; escalates when necessary based on protocol.
  • Maintain and operate company vehicle according to company guidelines.
  • Work with sales team to identify new sales or equipment opportunities.
  • Maintain and/or partner with the parts department to ensure sufficient parts.
  • Keep each unit clean following good housekeeping rules and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Maintain large or small horsepower units, gas lift or traditional compression units along with other related equipment associated with our business.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Skills/Capabilities and Education:
  • Technical/trade school certification or additional work experience in related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer at least 2 years of experience in gas compression industry, with preference to CAT, Ariel and/or Cummins certifications and experience.
  • Prefer experience with CAT 3500, 3600 engines, Waukesha VHP engines, and Cummins KTA engines.
  • Applicant must have the ability to legally work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license with a DMV history acceptable to USAC.
  • Capable of safely driving commercial size truck.
  • Excellent customer service and positive communication skills are critical to succeed in this role.
  • Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees.
  • Ability to self-manage and work independently with little to no supervision.
  • High degree of mechanical ability.
  • Experience reading and understanding technical manuals.
  • Experience in configuring natural gas compression equipment.
  • Ability and flexibility to work extended hours including periodic on-call weekends.
  • Ability to understand written/ verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
Working Conditions:
  • Work day consists of driving a USA Compression service vehicle to customer locations to perform repair and maintenance activities.
  • Periodic lifting requirements in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs; and stoop, squat, kneel, crouch and crawl depending on the task requirements.
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature/weather conditions depending upon assigned location.
  • Occasional exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection.
  • Some exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Working conditions will vary from one job site to another; some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
  • There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
