Job summary

Texas First Rentals is seeking a Field Service Technician II to perform minor repairs and troubleshooting on construction equipment at an off-site location. You will diagnose issues, replace parts, and recondition equipment while maintaining accurate service reports and customer records.

The role requires knowledge of hydraulics, engines, and electrical systems, plus the ability to operate cranes and forklifts with required licenses. Travel may be involved, and safety training is emphasized.

Qualifications

• More than two years of heavy equipment experience required; three or more years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
• Performs minor troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures
• Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles basic components
• Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of repairs
• Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains customer records
• Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
• Maintains DOT vehicle inspection records and driver logs
• Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
• Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in good condition
• Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer
• Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training
• Projects professionalism with customers and may mentor lower level Technicians
• Requires regular and punctual attendance
• Performs other duties as assigned

The Field Service Technician II provides face-to-face customer service located at an off-site location and is responsible for minor troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning of various light and heavy construction equipment.

Essential Functions

• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
• Performs minor repairs and minimal troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
• Performs minor troubleshooting and minimal diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures
• Removes and install parts, disassembles and assembles basic components
• Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
• Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job
• Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
• Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
• Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
• Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
• Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
• Completes assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
• Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
• Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower level Technicians
• Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
• Basic knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical
• Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and basic knowledge of machine electronic systems

Requirements

Additional Requirements

• Valid Driver’s license required
• Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record
• Must own required tools to perform repairs

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb
• Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
• Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment

• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
• Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
• May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
• Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
