Job summary

Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. is seeking a Road Mechanic in Chesapeake, Virginia. In this role, you will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment including aerial work platforms and generators in a safety-focused environment.

Job description

Road Mechanic

Road mechanic/technician role performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on equipment such as aerial work platforms, general construction tools, and specialty lines (generators, pumps, HVAC, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Work on a variety of makes, models and equipment in challenging remote locations.
• Develop new skills for a career track in service or operation management.
• Work with an incredible team in a safety-focused environment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on equipment.
• Provide mechanic’s tools of trade as needed.
• Diagnose hydraulic and electrical systems fundamentals and troubleshoot.
• Maintain flexibility with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Assist with safety inspections and record‑keeping.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some trade school or equivalent training desirable.
• 3‑5 years of mechanic experience with diesel equipment, heavy construction equipment or specialty lines such as large-scale generators, pumps, HVAC or oil & gas equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. CDL may be required for some locations.
• Bilingual (Spanish or other) may be required in certain locations.
• Experience as a shop mechanic, technician, service foreman, or related roles is preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Demands

The role requires bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, lifting 50 pounds or more, and working indoors or outdoors as required.

Pay

Base Pay Range: $24.05 – $33.06 per hour. Starting rate may vary based on location, education, training, or experience.
