Job summary

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician to join our Electrical team. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment while providing top-notch service to customers across the Western United States.

You’ll work with motors, switchgear, transformers, controls, and drives, travel to customer sites, and support preventive maintenance and emergency projects. Strong communication and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years electrical experience required or desired.
  • Experience with motors, switchgear, transformers, controls, and electrical equipment is a plus.
  • Strong customer relations and written/verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical installation including conduit, cable, switchgear, and electrical apparatus.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on electrical and electronic systems, indoors and outdoors.
  • Work with low to medium voltage (120V to 46kV).
  • Use electrical test meters (DVMs, megger, ammeters, hipot).
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

In this role, no day will be the same. You'll troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment while delivering top‑notch service to our customers. Responsibilities & Expectations

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience working with motors, switchgear, transformers, controls, variable frequency drives, protective relays, and other electrical equipment. As a field service technician travel to customers in the Western US will be essential.

  • Electrical installation, including but not limited to conduit, cable, low and medium voltage switchgear and electrical apparatus.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of electrical and electronic systems, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Working knowledge in low voltage and medium voltage ranging from 120v up to 46kv.
  • Proficiency in the use of electrical test meters: DVM's, megger, ammeters, hipot, conductor, Doble, etc.
  • Able to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, experience in AC and DC power circuits.
  • General knowledge of low & medium voltage circuit breakers.
  • Travel to perform regular PM's and or emergency projects.
  • Perform basic control wiring installation using schematics and wiring diagrams with little assistance.
  • Provide and maintain personal tools.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • At least 3 years electrical experience desired.
  • Experience related to utility companies and heavy industry a plus.
  • Electrical education or certifications are a plus.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good customer relations skills and be able to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a challenging fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to take direction and act independently. Must also be able to work well with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized.
  • Must be a self‑starter and able to make quick decisions.
  • Must be willing to follow standard safety practices in performing job tasks to promote safe and efficient workmanship.
  • Must show a history of being reliable and dependable. Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include: bending, lifting, carrying, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment.
  • Be willing to travel and work in several different geographic locations (indoors & outdoors).
  • Driving to jobs is a regular function of this role.
  • Must be willing to confidently submit to the background and drug screening process.
