Job summary

Wideopenwest Mid-Michigan, LLC is looking for a dedicated Field Service Technician in Potterville, Michigan. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting phone, internet, and video services in assigned neighborhoods.

Qualifications

Job description

Field Service Technician

Responsible for installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting phone, internet, and video services in assigned neighborhoods.

Responsibilities
  • Perform new connects, reconnects, disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, and change‑of‑service for phone, internet, or video services.
  • Install and relocate outlets, converters, cable modems, and interior/exterior wiring.
  • Connect peripheral equipment, install interior and exterior wiring, and ensure proper signal levels and picture quality.
  • Train customers on proper use of equipment.
  • Monitor, repair, and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage.
  • Identify causes of picture and/or signal degradation, troubleshoot from consumer device to tap, and replace components as needed.
  • Assure system security by terminating unused ports, tagging drops, and locking pedestals.
  • Take voltage measurements and apply FCC and NESC technical standards.
  • Identify and report all incidents of noncompliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA, and WOW standards).
  • Maintain professional appearance and provide superior customer service at all times.
  • Complete all tasks to WOW! quality standards and maintain excellent attendance.
  • Responsibility for vehicle per company policy, including equipment inventory, vehicle security, and maintenance.
  • Replace defective or damaged tap plates, install new taps, and splice, repair, or replace coax cable.
  • Perform network troubleshooting, including ping tests, traceroutes, and speed tests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include training other employees.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent communication skills to present technical information to non‑technical customers.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately measure distances.
  • Proficient with test equipment such as signal level meters, volt‑ohm meters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Strong record‑keeping skills: logs, reports, and work orders.
  • Experience with handheld Field Service Tool application.
  • Ability to handle escalations and time‑critical issues.
  • Capacity to read street maps and work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and on‑call shifts.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Physical Demands
  • Standing most of the time and walking or working over all types of terrain and weather.
  • Carry tools and equipment, climb and operate extension ladders up to 28 ft, and lift up to 90 lb.
  • Work in tight spaces, roofs, utility poles, poorly vented areas, and extreme temperatures.
  • Operate hand tools, drums, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other hand tools.
  • Use close vision and peripheral vision to adjust focus.
  • Drive company vehicles safely and use personal protective equipment consistently.
