Kirby Risk Mechanical Solutions & Service seeks a Field Service Technician in Lafayette, IN to diagnose issues, work hands-on with equipment, and support customers in the field. The role emphasizes troubleshooting, data analysis, and delivering solutions that keep operations running smoothly.

The technician will perform on-site VFD start-ups, predictive maintenance, and provide post-repair technical support.

Qualifications

  • College-level coursework or 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Trade/technical school certification or equivalent hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) start-ups, troubleshooting and diagnostics across various customer environments.
  • Conduct predictive and preventative maintenance services including vibration analysis, laser alignment, oil analysis, infra-red thermography, dynamic balancing, and motor circuit analysis.
  • Provide ongoing technical support after repair services are completed.
  • Present detailed service findings and recommendations for customer review and approval.
  • Coordinate job flow with customers and internal MSS scheduling teams.
  • Document all service calls for accurate and timely billing.
  • Track results and success metrics for implemented programs.
  • Maintain professionalism in all customer and vendor interactions.
  • Pursue ongoing education to stay current with MSS technologies and applications.
  • Support on-call and after-hours service rotations.

At Kirby Risk Mechanical Solutions & Service, our Field Service Technicians play a vital role in delivering predictive and preventative maintenance services that help customers prevent failures, extend equipment life, and keep their facilities operating safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do as a Field Service Technician

You’ll:

What Makes You a Great Fit
  • College-level coursework or 2+ years relevant experience
  • Trade/technical school certification or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Understanding of electrical wiring principles and mechanical systems
  • PLC, Controls and Robotics a plus
  • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Solid math skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work independently, and think critically
  • Continuous learner with ability to retain technical training and skill development
  • Proficiency with computers; Microsoft Office preferred
What to Expect in This Role
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, lift up to 50 lbs. and adapt to varied work environments
  • After completing the initial training period, you will be required to participate in the emergency service on call rotation
  • Ability to sit, stand, crouch, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Frequent use of hands for tools, equipment, and documentation
  • Travel required (daily, with occasional overnight)
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7am-4pm. Flexibility required to meet customer needs
