Job Overview

Our client is hiring a Field Service Technician to provide on-call technical support for network infrastructure improvements during a project in Houston. The technician will assist with network hardware deployment, cabling, equipment installation, testing, and basic troubleshooting.

This role is well suited for someone early in their networking or IT career who enjoys hands-on technical work and is comfortable responding to project needs on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will work alongside a senior technician and follow established procedures for installations, configurations, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with network cable installation, organization, and labeling
• Support the deployment and configuration of Fortinet switches and access points
• Assist with physical network infrastructure and server room improvements
• Install, organize, and test network equipment as directed
• Test network connections and perform basic troubleshooting
• Provide on-site support when requested based on project requirements

Technical Support & Documentation

• Follow instructions from the senior technician during installations and configurations
• Assist with identifying and resolving basic network connectivity issues
• Support equipment setup, labeling, asset tracking, and documentation
• Report technical issues or installation concerns to the senior technician
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in an IT support, field technician, network installation, or similar role
• Basic understanding of networking concepts, cabling, and hardware
• Comfortable working with network equipment and performing hands-on technical tasks
• Ability to follow technical instructions and established procedures
• Ability to work on-site and respond to project needs on an on-call basis
• Comfortable working in physically demanding environments, including server rooms and areas requiring equipment installation or cable organization
• Willingness to learn and collaborate with senior technical staff

Preferred Qualifications

• Networking coursework or certifications, such as Network+ or CCNA (including certifications in progress)
• Exposure to structured cabling and network infrastructure
• Basic experience with switches, access points, firewalls, or related network equipment
• Familiarity with Fortinet products is an asset
• Previous experience supporting IT deployment or infrastructure projects

On-Call Requirement

• This is an on-call contract position. Work will be scheduled based on project requirements, site needs, and the availability of the technician. Hours may vary throughout the project, and the technician should be available to respond when on-site support is requested.
