Job summary

Ohio Medical, a unit of ESAB, is seeking a Field Service Technician in Gurnee, IL to provide startup, in‑service training, and ongoing maintenance for their medical air, vacuum, and gas pipeline systems. You will troubleshoot, repair, and warranty-evaluate equipment and support field and inside service operations.

Requirements include 2–4 years of electrical/mechanical experience, a high school diploma, a valid US driver's license, and travel about 40% domestically with occasional overnight

Responsibilities

• Perform start-up, in-service training, preventive maintenance, and repairs on Ohio Medical equipment.
• Troubleshoot, repair in-house and in the field; support warranty evaluations.
• Read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics; follow SOPs and work instructions.
• Support inside after-market sales and coordinate with service, parts, and sales teams.
• Travel domestically up to ~40% with occasional overnight stays; maintain safety and quality standards.

The Field Service Technician position provides field and inside support activities which include start up and in‑service training, corrective and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and warranty evaluations. Technician is required to provide quality, service, and support of all Ohio Medical source air and vacuum equipment, medical gas pipeline equipment, components, assemblies, and sub‑assemblies. Follow company’s ISO, FDA, and budgetary guidelines with minimizing customer down time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Include but not limited to)

• Receives On‑The‑Job Training from FST III to perform start up and in‑service training on complex air and vacuum systems, and medical gas pipeline equipment. Perform field service preventative maintenance, perform component replacement, field service corrective maintenance, and to trouble shoot, repair in‑house and field service warranty evaluations on Ohio Medical source air and vacuum equipment, and medical gas pipeline equipment.
• Follow all appropriate "Standard Operating Procedures" & "Work Instructions".
• Assist in investigations / evaluations and provide recommendations as needed in support of company quality policies and procedures.
• The ability to perform assigned field service work with minimal supervision.
• Read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, product manuals.
• Provides support for inside after‑market sales activities.
• Work on 75% pipeline products and various Systems along with other manufactured systems.
• Limited overnight travel up to several days for field service assignments. Occasionally short notice is given.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

Professional Experience

• 2‑4 years electrical/mechanical experience required
• Customer / Field Service experience preferred

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Associates Degree / Technical Certificate preferred
• Work to obtain ASSE Med Gas 6040 Certification. Ohio Medical to sponsor.

Language

• English

• Frequent overnight travel, sometimes with short notice.

PERSONAL TRAIT PROFILE

• Mechanical, basic electrical troubleshooting and repair aptitude of PLC controls.
• Pneumatic experience preferred
• Valid U.S. Driver's License
• Positive customer relations skills
• Good documentation practices and attention to detail
• Able to perform work assignments with little to no supervision
• Must possess or be able to obtain a passport

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

• Reports directly to Service Manager
• Service Technicians – technical product questions, training needs and feedback.
• Sales Team – for two‑way feedback on customer issues and sales/service opportunities.
• Service Department – for technical product questions, parts ID and feedback on equipment issues

External

• Customers – Notify Ohio Medical service department of customer concerns regarding issue resolution, coordination of service visits, service contract opportunities, etc.
