Job Brief
The Field Service Technician is responsible for ensuring customer equipment is operating accurately, reliably, and in compliance with applicable specifications. This role performs calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation services on a variety of laboratory, manufacturing, and process instrumentation. This is a field-based position that requires regular travel to customer sites, primarily within the local service region, with occasional overnight travel as needed to support customer and business requirements.
The position will primarily work during normal business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, but may require occasional off-hours, weekend work, and travel based on customer and business needs.
The goal of the Field Service Technician is to meet customer expectations by delivering high-quality calibration and technical service support at customer sites and within Ellab facilities.
Core Responsibilities
The Field Service Technician is responsible for:
- Perform calibration, verification, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and upgrade services on customer equipment in accordance with approved specifications, work instructions, and technical requirements.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical equipment issues.
- Interface directly with customers regarding equipment status, calibration results, maintenance findings, service recommendations, and project updates.
- Track project status and maintain accurate service documentation, calibration certificates, and project records to support reporting, invoicing, and project closeout.
- Support and maintain company standards, tools, rental equipment, service inventory, and assigned test equipment.
- Follow all customer, internal, ISO/IEC 17025, GMP, and safety requirements while performing field and laboratory service activities.
- Maintain knowledge of calibration principles, industry standards, regulations, and best practices through continuous learning and training.
- Support in-lab calibration activities and assist with metrology laboratory workload and backlog reduction when not assigned to field service projects.
- Identify opportunities for additional calibration, maintenance, repair, and other service offerings to support customer needs and business growth.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of technical experience in calibration, instrumentation, maintenance, field service, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience in a GMP-regulated environment preferred.
- Knowledge of measurement principles, including measurement uncertainty, traceability, calibration intervals, test uncertainty, and out-of-tolerance reporting.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair methodologies for equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 11, 210, 211, and 820, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites.
