Job description

Overview

We seek an experienced forklift technician with 3+ years' experience in a shop or field setting. Automotive technicians with dealership experience are also encouraged to apply. Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as forklifts, scissor lifts and articulate boom equipment, used in construction. Work completed in house (shop).

Reporting

This is an hourly position and reports directly to the shop service manager.

Responsibilities
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoist and hand tools.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Troubleshooting - determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it, including repairing machines or systems using needed tools.
  • Equipment Maintenance - performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Equipment Selection - determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the job.
  • Installation - installing equipment, machines, wiring or programs to meet specifications.
  • Operating Monitoring - watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Problem Sensitivity - ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Information Ordering - ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
  • Manual Dexterity - ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Near Vision - ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Multi-limb Coordination - ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Control Precision - ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment such as goggles, face shield, gloves, and work apron.
  • Frequently involves heavy lifting, pulling (up to 100 pounds) or working in awkward positions or lying on back working beneath truck.
  • Uses trade type tools or hand tools.
