Job Summary
Provide instruction and leadership to employees and customers in the areas of customer service, troubleshooting, startups, parts, field service and OEM warranty assistance. Proficient with electrical diagnostic and trending test equipment. Specializations in Data Center CMX and IST is a plus. Provide technical training for customers, representatives, and employees on new and existing products. Prime Power, Navy Nuke, NETA Level 3, Nicet Level 3, Industrial Electricians (Master), OEM Techs/Eng and Electrical Engineers will be considered.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner and promote a “Safety First” mentality across the team.
- Perform technical support via telephone or e‑mail, providing customers with answers to technical questions, over the phone troubleshooting, drawings, and general assistance with technical problems.
- Perform field service up to and including warranty, commissioning, acceptance testing, integrated system tests, protective relay settings and functional tests on multiple OEM products. Travel may include weekends and/or holidays and may require travel for extended periods of time (up to 30‑40%) to accomplish customer training, service repair or start‑ups.
- Complete new product research, development, and evaluation. Plan, layout, and perform specialized work of substantial variety and complexity. May act as a consultant or advisor to customers, engineers or other employees. Responsible for or assists with assignments requiring independent and individual contribution.
- Complete functional testing of all models of completed controllers and custom‑built controls. Troubleshoot to the component level of all equipment that does not pass testing. Perform final inspection of completed controllers and QC inspection of equipment. Perform functional analysis and reliability testing of new products.
- Assist engineering department with research, development and evaluation of new proposed equipment.
- Drive projects to completion in a timely manner and with minimal supervision.
- Attend Customer Safety Meetings and provide site safety compliance in accordance with ESS Metron and Customer guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience working with 12 VDC to 125 VDC.
- Experience working with 120 VAC to 38 kVAC.
- Ability to troubleshoot relay logic and PLC‑based circuits.
- Experience with across the line and reduced current motor control troubleshooting and testing.
- Variable frequency drive control troubleshooting and testing.
- Switch board troubleshooting and testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and conduct training over the phone.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and conduct training over e‑mail.
- Familiarity with NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 70, UL 50, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, Metal‑Clad SWGR, UL 1773, IEEE and NEC.
- Ability to install, troubleshoot and navigate PLC and HMI software for Allen Bradley, Siemens and GE programmable logic controllers.
- Ability to travel with a minimum notice for emergency service work.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lb.
- Ability to stand for a prolonged period.
- Ability to work extended hours when required (never more than OSHA recommendations).
- Ability to clearly and logically function test in a fast‑paced environment.
- Must have a clean driving record and be eligible for government clearance work.
Required / Preferred Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar field a plus.
- 4–5 years experience in electrical equipment manufacturing role—electromechanical assembly, testing, etc.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position operates in an active manufacturing facility and on customer sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Use of standard office equipment is necessary, and the employee may need to occasionally lift up to 50 lb.
