To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Field Service Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. This is a unique opportunity to further your experience working on electrical equipment in diverse locations across the United States, including power plants, hydroelectric dams, and other large industrial facilities. Our Field Service Technicians perform testing, maintenance, and repair of low and medium voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control, and other electrical apparatus in the shop and in the field.

Preferred Locations: Cleveland, OH

Responsibilities:
  1. Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data of low, medium, and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
  2. Instrument transformer tests.
  3. Execute power transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  4. Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  5. Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting.
  6. Conduct Low, Medium, and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
  7. Perform functional verifications of control circuits for switchgear and substation equipment.
  8. Develop detailed test and/or commissioning plans as necessary for defined scopes.
  9. Support moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  10. Read, interpret, and follow technical drawings, schematics, and written work instructions/procedures as required.
  11. Support the Field Services team on shut-down, startup, and maintenance projects.
  12. Occasionally interact with customers to gather critical information and review engineering plans.
  13. Have a thorough understanding of safe work practices in the electrical industry.
  14. Operate company vehicles safely and within company policy.
  15. Assume other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. 1-3 years related experience in power plants, industrial services, primary power distribution, and related protection and control schemes.
  2. Prefer educational focus in Power Systems studies, with knowledge of low, medium, and high voltage up to 500 kV.
  3. NETA Certification (II, III or IV) or similar desired or Electrician license preferred.
  4. Previous experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting, relay testing, substation design/commissioning, and/or NETA testing/maintenance preferred.
  5. Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel.
  6. Experience utilizing Power DB, SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, EZPower, or other power system modeling software is a plus.
  7. Familiarity with reading, interpreting, and following technical drawings, schematics, and written work instructions/procedures.
  8. Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  9. OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training is preferred.
  10. Experience in short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, and power quality studies is preferred.
  11. Must be able to clearly communicate in English via verbal and written methods, and effectively communicate directly to customers and co-workers.
Other Requirements:
  1. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests and a pre-employment criminal background check.
  2. Must be willing to travel; minimum 70%.
  3. Must be able to drive daily to customer job sites and be available for periodic overnight travel.
  4. Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
  5. Valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
