Job summary

A field service controls company is seeking a Field Service Technician in New Jersey. The ideal candidate should have mechanical and electrical expertise, experience troubleshooting, and must be safety-oriented. Responsibilities include customer support, calibrating equipment, and performing site visits. A valid driver's license is required as a company vehicle will be provided after training. Excellent communication skills are a must for customer satisfaction and retention.

Energy Control is a field service controls company and has been in business since 2001. We provide scheduled service and emergency support in Industrial Boiler Rooms and Power Plants. We specialize in watertube and firetube boilers, burners and control systems. We also provide turnkey design-build controls solutions. We service what we sell. The innovation and success of our company has created an opening for a Self-Starting Individual who apply their previous knowledge to move forward with combustion controls.

This position is for a Field Service Technician with both mechanical and electrical expertise who can calibrate and replace field devices as well as perform general electrical and burner troubleshooting. Individuals without prior field service experience need not apply. Understanding DC controls is a must. This person must be able to understand electrical drawings and P&IDs. Understanding Combustion and Control Loops is a plus.

We typically service North/Central New Jersey and New York City. You must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. A company service vehicle will be provided after a probationary and training period.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work with others as well as work alone. Excellent communication skills are essential for customer satisfaction, retention, and company profitability.

· Roles and Responsibilities:

The following is expected:

Be presentable and meet with the customer to listen, understand, and provide support for equipment problems.

Perform mechanical, electrical troubleshooting and calibration on transmitters, switches, valves, and damper drives.

Perform device replacement, testing and commissioning tasks.

Work safely.

Provide satisfactory clean-up and housekeeping.

Follow-up with customer and provide a detailed service report, discuss a general summary, and determine if follow-up is required.

Upload documentation to the office, provide feedback for future follow-up, equipment ordering and scheduling.

· Expectations:

Must be fluent in English (written and verbal skills)

Must have prior field service experience in a technician role.

Must be Safety Oriented.

Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Must be able to read electrical line and loop diagrams.

Must be able to follow instructions.

Understand 4-20mA analog electrical signals.

Understand 3-15psig pneumatic signals and electrical I/P transducers.

120 VAC Control Signals.

Reading and understanding electrical prints and ladder logic diagrams.

Reading gages.

Participate with our internal knowledge sharing.

Be able to tolerate loud environments with occasional temperature extremes.

Understanding Combustion and Control Loops is a plus.

Experience performing Combustion Tuning is a plus.

Previous Work Experience Preferred:

Previous experience in a commercial or industrial setting working on controls systems.

Commercial or Industrial HVAC experience

Auto Technician or Electrical Technician with experience in an Industrial and/or Commercial setting.

· Minimum Education/Certification and Other Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent AND one of the following:

Technical degree/certificate.

Associate’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering technology

3-5 years relevant field experience.

Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Must be a US Citizen.

· Physical Demands/Unusual Working Conditions: 95% of work involves site visits to customer with 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours away in NJ and NYC. Most site work is typically indoors within Industrial Boilers Rooms and Power Plants in Hospitals, Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Manufacturing Companies. Some work may be outdoors at Cogen Facilities. Must be willing to be on call to respond to emergency service calls. Must be able to list 50lbs.

· Computer Skills: Must have strong skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. PLC or blockware experience is a plus.
