Job summary

ABB is seeking a Field Service Engineer to execute service work per instructions, delivering quality planning and on-site support with a strong focus on customer satisfaction. You will travel 50-60% to domestic and international locations, install, diagnose, and maintain Force Measurement systems, and collaborate across teams to meet contract requirements.

You will read mechanical drawings, interpret electrical schematics, and document service activities.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED with 5 years of professional experience; or Associates with 3 years; or Bachelor's with 1 year.
  • Experience with Force Measurement Products or Field Service Engineering preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics; electro-mechanically inclined.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication; MS Word and Excel skills required.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 60%; work authorization for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Force Measurement products at customer sites.
  • Diagnose issues, analyze performance, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Support field projects with equipment testing, start-up activities, modifications, inspections, and maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Use engineering software to collect data, perform calculations, and prepare service reports.
  • Travel extensively (50-60%) to domestic and international locations for on-site support.

This position reports to:

Manager Field Engineering

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB quality and safety guidelines. Each day, you will deliver quality customer service planning and execute service work as per customer order and expectation. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring customer retention by effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid out of Danbury, CT with 50-60% travel required. #LI-Hybrid

  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Force Measurement products and systems at customer sites, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

  • Diagnose technical issues, analyze equipment performance, and implement corrective actions to resolve problems and improve system reliability and customer satisfaction.

  • Support field projects by performing equipment testing, start-up activities, modifications, inspections, preventive maintenance, and detailed documentation of service activities.

  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams to provide technical expertise, recommend solutions, and ensure compliance with project requirements and contractual commitments.

  • Utilize engineering software and tools to collect operational data, perform calculations, evaluate system performance, and prepare service reports and maintenance records.

  • Travel extensively (approximately 50-60%) to domestic and international customer locations, providing on-site support on planned and emergency service assignments, including occasional weekends and holidays.

Qualifications for the role:
  • HS Diploma/GED and 5 years of professional work experience; Associates Degree and 3 years of professional work experience; OR Bachelors Degree and one year of professional work experience

  • Experience with Force Measurement Products or Field Service Engineering experience is preferred

  • Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics and be electro-mechanically inclined

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in english and knowledge of MS Word and Excel suite products is required

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (at times) up to 60% of the time.

  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $58,500 and $93,600 annually.
