Field Service Tech - Lead

Overview

The primary responsibility of the Lead Field Service Technician is to lead, plan, and coordinate major component exchanges and uptower component repairs on all major wind OEM turbines on multi-megawatt platforms throughout North America.

Responsibilities
  1. Travel extensively with little or no notice to customer wind farm sites.
  2. Embodies safety culture and possesses a high level of technical expertise.
  3. Schedule cranes, crews, trucking, and parts for various repair operations.
  4. Have technical experience for commissioning, controls interface, and troubleshooting across multiple OEMs.
  5. Create and follow electrical work plans.
  6. Write equipment-specific LOTO procedures.
  7. Act as the primary customer interface and relay interactions to their leadership.
  8. Perform high competency tasks following instructions and schedules.
  9. Perform installation tasks with proficiency in torqueing, calibration, and use of hydraulic, power, and hand tools.
  10. Proficient in crane signaling and industry-approved rigging practices.
  11. Read and comprehend schematics, work instructions, and safety protocols.
  12. Understand and follow lift plans.
  13. Coordinate with Field Engineer and/or Director of Field Operations for scheduling, parts, and consumables.
  14. Create technician development plans.
  15. Identify and drive equipment and tooling development or processes.
  16. Develop budgets and improve bidding processes.
  17. Ensure continuity of jobs for parts, tooling, manpower, and procedures.
  18. Review reports for accuracy and ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  19. Develop and write work procedures.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School or GED, Associate degree in wind technology, OEM certification, bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Wind school or OEM-specific training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in basic construction, mechanical inclination, schematic reading, hydraulic tensioning, torqueing, fastener/bolting, hydraulic cylinders, and office software (Word and Excel). Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to climb ladder systems to heights of 260+ feet, often with tools and equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry materials weighing 35-70 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Comfortable with heights, confined spaces, and weather exposure.
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and lifting for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Ability to operate hand controls for extended periods, including finger manipulation and repetitive motions.
  • Meet OSHA weight requirements for ladder climbing (250-300 pounds).
