Field Team Leader - Hydroelectric Power Generation - Remote with Travel
I'm looking for an experienced field service leader to lead complex maintenance, repair, and modernization projects at hydroelectric generating facilities. I've partnered with an established organization supporting critical hydroelectric equipment across the power generation industry.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who has built a strong technical foundation working with large electrical generators/motors and can take ownership of field operations, lead skilled technical teams, and contribute to major projects across the country.
The position combines hands‑on technical problem‑solving with field leadership, providing exposure to a variety of generating facilities, equipment configurations, and challenging engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee field crews carrying out maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment upgrades at hydroelectric power facilities.
- Lead onsite activities involving large generator assemblies, including stators, rotors, winding systems, and associated components.
- Provide technical guidance during equipment disassembly, inspections, fault identification, component repairs, and reinstallation.
- Supervise and support electrical diagnostic testing to evaluate generator condition and identify potential equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, collaborating with engineering teams to develop effective repair strategies.
- Act as a primary technical contact onsite, coordinating with customers, engineering personnel, and project management teams.
- Mentor junior technicians and support the development of field service capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience working with hydroelectric generators, industrial generators, large rotating electrical machinery, or related power generation equipment.
- Previous experience supervising technical crews, coordinating equipment outages, or leading major maintenance and repair projects.
- Strong understanding of generator construction, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair processes.
- Practical knowledge of stator and rotor systems, including winding-related maintenance and refurbishment.
- Familiarity with electrical diagnostic methods such as insulation resistance testing, polarization index, high‑potential testing, winding resistance measurements, or similar assessments.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Willingness to travel extensively and support projects requiring extended periods onsite.
Nice to Haves
- Exposure to generator rewinding, major overhauls, or refurbishment projects.
- Familiarity with auxiliary electrical equipment used in power generation facilities.
- An engineering degree or technical qualification is advantageous, although substantial hands‑on experience is equally valued.
