Job summary

DTE is building step-change technology for metals production and seeks a Field Service Specialist to install, commission, and service DTE solutions at customer sites across the United States. Expect ~50% travel to support deployments and operations.

You will configure equipment, train operators, and provide remote and on-site technical support while upholding safety and quality standards in demanding industrial environments.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in assembly, field service, or technical support with electronic/industrial equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting automated control systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on with prototypes, testing, and product improvements.
• Strong emphasis on safety, reliability and quality.
• Able to meet access requirements (safety training, screenings, background checks).
• Comfortable in hot, noisy casthouse environments with PPE.
• Experience in metals/foundry or heavy industry is a plus.
• Excellent English communication skills; other languages are a plus.

DTE is building step-change technology for one of the world’s largest industrial sectors: metals production.

We are scaling from individual deployments to plant-wide solutions with leading aluminum producers. To support this next phase, we are looking for a Field Service Specialist who wants to work hands-on with innovative industrial technology and help shape the future of metals production.

The Field Service Specialist is part of DTE’s Service, Production and Delivery team and is based in the United States. You will be responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting DTE solutions at customer sites across the country, with approximately 50% travel to support customer operations and deployments.

You will work closely with customers during installation, start-up and service visits, configuring equipment to meet operational requirements, training operators, providing remote and on-site technical support, and serving as a key point of contact throughout installation and maintenance activities.

We are looking for someone who enjoys helping customers, understands heavy manufacturing environments, likes solving problems, and demonstrates strong judgment around quality, reliability, and safety. You should be comfortable working independently and taking ownership when technical problems need to be solved in the field.

Our equipment operates in demanding industrial environments — heat, noise, dust and heavy machinery — and this is a hands-on role. You need to be comfortable working in that environment when required.

DTE currently supports customers across the United States, including Tennessee, New York, Washington, Virginia and Texas. The successful candidate must live within easy driving distance of a major airport and be willing and able to travel approximately 50% within the United States, with occasional travel to DTE headquarters in Iceland for training and product familiarization. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States and hold a valid driver’s license and passport.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, install, and commission metal production analytical devices at customer sites.
• Ensure installations and service workmeet the highest standards of quality, safety,and schedule adherence.
• Implement DTE solutions and train customer operators to use them.
• Service, maintain, and repair installed solutions to ensure reliable operation and maximize value for DTE customers, including remote technical support.
• Confirm customer site readiness ahead of installation — power, utilities, access, lifting, and safety approvals — and flag gaps early.
• Participate in the on-call rota for remote and on-site support, responding within agreed service commitments.
• Provide feedback to Product and Engineering to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

• B.Sc. in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 3+ years of experience in assembly, field service, or technical support roles involving electronic or industrial equipment.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting methodologies for automated control systems and logic.
• Strong analytical skills and a practical problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to work hands-on with prototypes, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvement.
• Strong focus on safety, reliability, and quality.
• Able to meet customer site access requirements, which in heavy industry commonly include safety training, medical or drug screening, and background checks.
• Comfortable working in hot, noisy casthouse environments, wearing personal protective equipment and handling equipment components.
• Experience in metals, foundry, or other heavy industrial environments is a plus.
• Electrical training, certification, or licensure is a plus.
• Excellent English communication skills; other languages are a plus.
