Job summary

Herc Rentals seeks a Field Service Mechanic A in Charlotte, NC to perform preventive maintenance and on-site servicing of the Herc fleet at customer job sites. You will work independently, dispatching to local jobs and acting as a go-to technical resource to ensure equipment remains in peak condition.

The role emphasizes safety, ability to read schematics, and clear communication with customers and field staff while building strong relationships and supporting community growth.

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools.
• Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a consistent preventive maintenance schedule for Herc fleet at long-term customer sites.
• Oversee oil changes, lubrication, tire and battery replacements and related services.
• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment to ensure proper operation at job sites.
• Troubleshoot fuel, electrical, hydraulic and propane systems.
• Replace parts to restore equipment to safe functioning state.
• Educate customers on proper equipment use to prevent future breakdowns.
• Analyze wear and tear to ensure proper use until next visit.
• Follow safety guidelines at active job sites and keep the work area clean.
• Produce detailed service reports and repair logs.
• Follow company procedures and protocols.
• Build positive relationships with customers.

Job Purpose

As a Field Service Mechanic A, you are a master technician and will assume a leadership role in product knowledge and standards of quality within the branch. You will serve as a go-to resource for utilizing your mechanical expertise to ensure Herc fleet remain in proper operating condition on our customer jobsites, at all times. Field Service Mechanics are dispatched to local jobsites at various times of the day and work independently without direct supervision. This provides the opportunity to build positive relationships with customers all while supporting the growth and improvement of your community.

What you will do...

• Develop and maintain a consistent schedule of performing preventative maintenance of all Herc owned fleet at long term customer job sites
• Oversee and conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems
• Recondition and replace assorted parts to return equipment to a safely functioning state
• Educating customers on proper use of equipment to avoid future breakdowns
• Analyze problem areas for any significant wear or tear and address to ensure proper usage of the equipment until your next scheduled visit
• Adhere to all safety guidelines posted at active jobsite where repairs and maintenance are completed
• Maintain work area on jobsite in a clean and organized manner
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
• Build positive relationships with customers
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Highschool diploma or equivalent
• Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
• Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
• Ownership of sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services
• Ability to be on call to support operational needs
• A valid driver’s license

Skills

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across all levels of the company
• Customer service skills to effectively engage with jobsite foremen and follow up in a timely manner
• Basic computer skills to open, close, and enter work orders
• Ability to safely handle tools, and operate a variety of vehicles and equipment
• Strong attention to detail and time management
• Flexibility to adapt to changing needs on an active jobsite
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors as required
• Ability to bend, crouch, squat, kneel, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks (stretching, turning, twisting, reaching overhead)

Pay Range:$33 - $38 per hour
