Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently in repair facility, mobile repair, and customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and refurbishment of surgical instruments per Aesculap quality standards.
  • At St. Louis Central Repair Facility perform duties of Repair Technician as applicable.
  • Meet established repair quality, productivity, and service expectations.
  • Introduce yourself to hospital repair contacts and represent Aesculap professionally.
  • Provide daily documentation of repairs, including billing and service records; seek feedback.
  • Provide detailed work instructions and training to permanent technicians upon return.
  • Perform quality control inspections to ensure service quality.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for assigned accounts about repair quality and services.
  • Coordinate work schedules with management to meet customer expectations for both contracted and non-contracted accounts.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance service quality and efficiency.
  • Comply with ISO, FDA, and quality system requirements.
  • Demonstrate and uphold Company Vision, Mission, and Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

This position supports all Aesculap repair locations throughout the United States. Based in St. Louis, MO, the Field Service Floater provides repair and refurbishment support for the St. Louis Central Repair Facility, mobile repair units, and in‑house customer locations. Up to 75% travel, depending on business needs.

This role reports directly to the Field Service Manager, Midwest, with dotted-line reporting to Field Service Managers within assigned territories when supporting mobile or in‑house repair locations. Responsibilities include the repair and refurbishment of surgical instruments, delivering high‑quality customer service, and representing Aesculap professionally during interactions with hospital staff. Success in this role requires proficiency in both central facility and mobile repair service standards to consistently meet customer expectations.

Principal Duties Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily repair and refurbishment of surgical instruments in accordance with Aesculap quality standards.
  • When working at the St. Louis Central Repair Facility, perform the duties and responsibilities associated with the Repair Technician role at the employee's current level.
  • Meet all established repair quality, productivity, and service expectations.
  • Introduce yourself to key hospital repair contacts and represent Aesculap with professionalism and a commitment to quality service.
  • Provide daily documentation of repairs performed, including billing information and service records, and seek customer feedback when appropriate.
  • Ensure a smooth transition by providing detailed work instructions, training, and status updates to permanent repair technicians upon their return.
  • Perform quality control inspections to ensure all repairs meet established service and quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned accounts regarding repair quality, services performed, demonstrations, and service expectations.
  • Collaborate with management to coordinate work schedules and ensure customer expectations are met for both contracted and non‑contracted accounts.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance service quality, operational efficiency, and long‑term customer relationships.
  • Comply with all applicable ISO, FDA, and company quality system requirements.
  • Demonstrate and uphold the Company's Vision, Mission, and Values.

Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the surgical instrumentation repair, refurbishment, or service field.
  • Strong knowledge of machine operation and fabrication procedures involving a variety of metal materials.
  • Ability to perform finishing techniques, including grinding, buffing, sandblasting, polishing, and filing.
  • Experience with soldering, welding, and brazing techniques.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% as business needs require.
  • Ability to work independently in a repair facility, mobile repair environment, and customer locations.
Preferred:
  • Trade school certification, Associate degree, or equivalent technical training in a related field.
  • Completion of Aesculap Basic Repair Training Program.
  • Previous field service, mobile repair, or customer-facing technical support experience.
  • Knowledge of drafting terminology and the ability to interpret or create technical drawings, including CAD experience.
  • Knowledge of metric and standard measurement systems and conversion tables.
  • Experience designing fixtures for machining and welding applications.
  • Experience performing repairs and maintenance within a healthcare or surgical instrument environment.

Pay Range: $28.58 - $42.88

The targeted range for this role takes into account a range of factors that are considered when making compensation and hiring decisions; included but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
