Job summary

Edwards, a global leader in vacuum and abatement systems, seeks a field service professional to service and install vacuum pumps at customer sites across the United States. You will perform planned visits, diagnose issues on-site, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installation, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with internal teams. Training and mentorship are available as part of career development.

Qualifications

• Goal is to become an expert on Vacuum Pump Systems.
• 2-4 years experience in a similar role and general mechanical understanding.
• System diagnostics: proficiency with diagnostic tools and software.
• Electrical and mechanical skills to repair motors, seals, and controls.
• Able to legally work in the U.S. and hold a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform Planned Customer Visits to service pumps and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair on-site to minimize downtime.
• Install and commission vacuum technology per global standards.
• Maintain safety compliance with PPE and risk assessments.
• Document maintenance activities and provide reports to clients.
• Identify potential issues and offer preventive maintenance.
• Lead generation for Sales on-site when applicable.
• Provide training and share lessons learned with colleagues.
• Collaborate with internal teams to tailor customer solutions.

Job description

Service

• Perform Planned Customer Visits: Regularly visit customer sites as scheduled by the field service planner to inspect and service industrial vacuum pumps and associated equipment. These visits include routine maintenance due to service plans, as well as ad hoc visits to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns
• Troubleshoot and Repair On-Site: Diagnose issues accurately and perform necessary repairs directly at the customer’s location to minimize downtime and maintain system efficiency.
• Undertake Installation and Commissioning: Carry out installation and commissioning of vacuum technology products in line with global standards, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to and promote strict safety protocols while working at customer sites, including conducting Last Minute Risk Assessments and using prescribed Personal Protective Equipment.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of on‑site maintenance activities, repairs, and any issues encountered, providing comprehensive reports to clients and management.
• Preventive Maintenance: Identify potential problems during site visits before they elevate and offer preventive maintenance solutions to avoid future disruptions.

Sales

• Lead Generation: Proactively generate leads for the Sales team while on-site

Learning

• Training and Mentoring: Provide training to colleagues and customers, and share lessons learned to enhance the exchange of experiences and foster a strong network.
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest advancements in vacuum technology and continuously improve technical skills to provide the best possible service during field visits.
• Collaboration: Work with the internal team to find optimal solutions for customer‑specific situations, ensuring the best advice and support are provide

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

• Goal is to become an expert on Vacuum Pump Systems: Comprehensive understanding of various types of vacuum pumps (e.g., rotary vane, scroll, turbomolecular) and their operational principles.
• General entry level: 2-4 years experience in a similar role. General understanding of mechanical processes. Understanding in what pattern the tool/product is operating, and what principles it follows.
• System Diagnostics: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software to identify and troubleshoot issues within (vacuum) systems.
• Electrical and Mechanical Skills: Great foundation in both electrical and mechanical engineering principles to repair components such as motors, seals, and control systems. This enables you to perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and system calibrations, to extend the lifespan of equipment. Including stripping it down to component level = inspecting all things, spare parts, etc.
• Able to legally work in the U.S.
• Valid Driver's License
