Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join our client's team, specializing in Boiler and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) Operation and Performance. This role involves frequent travel to utility and industrial power generation sites to perform inspections, gather operational and performance data, troubleshoot mechanical and performance issues, and support major field projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Boiler Systems:

  • Conduct visual inspections of utility and industrial boiler systems including settings, economizers, generating banks, superheaters (primary/final), reheaters, and attemperators.
  • Perform boiler performance testing and tuning for emissions compliance (NOx, CO, O₂).
  • Collect and analyze performance data to assess operational efficiency.
  • Work with instrumentation and boiler control systems.

HRSG Systems:

  • Conduct detailed HRSG inspections (exterior, gas side, waterside).
  • Apply ultrasonic thickness (UT) testing to pressure and non-pressure components.
  • Inspect and evaluate high-energy piping (HEP) systems, including hangers and supports.

Pulverizer and Combustion Systems (Preferred):

  • Evaluate pulverizer performance through coal fineness/distribution testing.
  • Determine air-to-coal (A/C) ratio via heat balance methods.
  • Prepare pulverizer characterization curves and conduct burner testing/tuning.

Project Support and Client Interaction:

  • Support major technical projects and initiatives at client sites.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Promote company services and technical solutions during field engagements.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Alternatively: Associate degree with 5+ years relevant experience, or 7+ years of direct field experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong foundation in heat transfer, thermodynamics, combustion, and fluid mechanics.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints.
  • Skilled in technical documentation and report writing.
  • Comfortable with over 60% travel schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Physical ability to crawl, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to access tight equipment areas through standard access ports.
