Field Service Engineer, Propulsion

This position reports to

Service Team Lead - Marine & Ports

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will execute service work following work instructions and adhering to ABB quality and safety guidelines. You will deliver quality customer service by planning and executing service work aligned with customer orders and expectations. You will also showcase your expertise by maintaining customer retention through effective communication of service timelines and expectations.

The work model for this role is hybrid. It contributes to the Process Automation Marine & Ports division. You will mainly be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with customers on-site to identify opportunities to improve operations and address pain points.
  • Performing field service tasks, diagnosing technical issues, and conducting analysis through remote or on-site activities within your certified service categories and products.
  • Preparing material lists for service activities and ensuring availability and quality of all materials, parts, and equipment.
  • Acting as a trainer for field service associates and customers when needed.

Qualifications for the role

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in engineering or a technical field, with at least 2 years of marine field service experience, or a combination of education and demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces such as vessels, propulsion systems, cofferdams, etc.
  • Up to 85% travel required (domestic and international, including weekends and holidays).
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical engineering, or similar preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in marine field service preferred.
  • Familiarity with marine/offshore environments and procedures preferred.
  • Experience with shipyard dry docking activities preferred.
  • Knowledge of marine propulsion, power generation, and power distribution preferred.
  • Understanding of marine steering systems (hydraulic & electrical) preferred.
  • Experience with confined space entry and work environments preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and design technical drawings and schematics using software like AutoCAD.
