Job description

At Nearfield Instruments we're looking for a Field Service Engineer in Portland, Oregon (USA) to join our team.

Full-time · Portland, Oregon (USA)

Please note: We do not offer visa sponsorship for this role

Meet the complex metrology needs of the semiconductor industry in this customer-facing role at a rapidly growing scale-up.

Chips are shrinking, becoming increasingly powerful and complex. But as a result, currently used metrology systems in the semiconductor industry no longer meet process control requirements. Nearfield Instruments offers the solution in terms of speed, precision and the capability of measuring the very latest, most complex 3D nanostructures. As a field service engineer, you will play a key role in delivering the solution for each customer’s metrology needs. Would you like to collaborate with the world’s leading chipmakers and see the results of your work in practice? We’re growing and hiring.

What you’re going to do?

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be servicing our semiconductor metrology systems at the customer fab. You are responsible for periodic and preventive maintenance of our products and execute hardware (HW) and software (SW) upgrades. You will solve potential problems that occur during wafer operations. You will also improve procedures, do administrative updates in the issue database, and suggest improvement proposals to increase the serviceability and reliability of NFI products.

The work will include:

  1. Troubleshooting NFI products in case of problems;
  2. Collecting logging and diagnostics data, analyzing and discussing it with the support team, and conducting root-cause analysis;
  3. Executing and/or implementing solutions for problems during service or upgrade;
  4. Executing tests on (sub)system level and documenting progress of service and test plans;
  5. Solving and/or reporting problems during service and coming up with improvement proposals;
  6. Replacing spare parts and/or upgrading spare parts using procedures and tools;
  7. Creating test and calibration procedures for (sub)systems of NFI products;
  8. When required, ordering spare parts and tools from NFI headquarters;
  9. Inspecting and registering delivered spare parts and consumables;
  10. Preparing facilities, tools, procedures, and systems for service and upgrade;
  11. Maintaining the toolbox which includes inspecting and cleaning tools and replacing broken tools.
What do we require from you?

Strong knowledge of operation/applications of semiconductor metrology tools is required;

1+ years of field work experience with customer engagement experiences, or 1+ years’ experience in IC processing/semiconductor equipment/semiconductor industry or related field;

A strong affinity with SW and controls;

A degree in a relevant field with some years of work experience in the Semiconductor industry;

Preferably coding capability (Matlab, Python, etc.) for data analysis, visualization, and algorithm development;

Flexibility and capability of working in a high-tech environment;

Excellent communication/presentation, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills;

Being self-driven, independent, yet a strong team player.

What can you expect

At Nearfield Instruments, you’ll be joining the most creative minds in science and technology from all over the world. We share a drive and have the potential to become the leading metrology instruments manufacturer. This is your chance to visibly contribute to growing our company and building revolutionary machines for the global semiconductor industry. The benefits we offer include:

  1. A salary matching your skills, expertise, and experience;
  2. Benefits like a good pension scheme, health insurance, and other benefits;
  3. An engaging onboarding program and a buddy to mentor you, so you can start with confidence;
  4. Unrivaled on-the-job training as you’ll be working with the industry’s top scientists, developing technology that doesn’t yet exist, and lots of opportunities to grow your career at our rapidly growing scale-up;
  5. An employer who has a diverse and inclusive culture. People from over thirty countries inspire, care for, and support each other. We encourage you to be or become who and what you want to be;
