Job Summary

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific to assist customers in healthcare, environmental protection, and food safety. Unity Lab Services (ULS), a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, provides coordinated solutions, instrument, and enterprise services to our customers. This Field Service Engineer role involves leading all aspects of field service support and customer relationship management, including installation, repairs, preventative maintenance, and instrument qualifications on Trace Elemental systems such as ICP, ICPMS, and Atomic Absorption (AA). The ideal candidate will be customer-oriented, advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific in customer laboratories, and eager to drive growth.

Location

The territory primarily covers Texas (Houston-based). This position has not been approved for relocation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and qualifications.
  • Work with clients and collaborate with ULS teams and Sales.
  • Use customer management software to track service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete tasks.
  • Review reports, inspect malfunctioning products, and determine issues.
  • Analyze findings to determine solutions and recommend repairs or replacements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
  • Analyze chemistry reports to recommend modifications to prevent future issues.
  • Serve as a communication link between the customer and the company.
  • Develop and conduct safety and operational training for equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Sciences, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Service Engineer working with Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry systems or relevant proven experience.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to build good customer rapport.
  • Ability to prioritize requests and produce clear documentation.
  • Ability to work independently at customer sites.
  • Availability to travel overnight up to 70% within the territory or as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs with assistance occasionally.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-30 lbs continuously.
  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach daily.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
