Position Overview

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer responsible for warranty repairs and commissioning of SMA utility inverters in the field. Duties include troubleshooting, repairing, data analysis, operation, and maintenance activities. The role involves working with high voltage electricity and maintaining excellent customer service at customer sites.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities
  • Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze SMA America’s utility inverters in the field, via email, telephone, and site visits.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of SMA’s utility inverter products and accessories.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts and work with high voltage DC electricity, three-phase power, and relevant software and firmware.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction while reducing field service costs.
  • Perform maintenance activities per SMA product manuals, adhering to contractual obligations.
  • Work weekends and/or nights as required. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in electrical, electronic, or network communications; solar industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Availability for nonstandard hours to support customer contracts.
  • Knowledge of solar/alternative energy markets and National Electric Code.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Benefits & Compensation
  • Pay Range: $27.40 - $33.41 annually, based on experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Hybrid work schedule: In-office Tuesday and Thursday; remote Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
