Position Overview

The Field Service Engineer will begin their role by supporting our manufacturing team in Fremont, CA for the first six months before transitioning back to Atlanta, GA. During this period, the engineer will work as a Manufacturing Technician, gaining hands-on experience assembling and testing our metal 3D printing systems alongside our production team. After this initial training and onboarding phase, the engineer will transition into a field-based role supporting customer installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, reporting to the Field Service Manager. This dual-phase approach ensures each engineer is fully equipped with the technical depth and product familiarity required to succeed in the field.

Near Term Deliverables – First 6 months
  1. Assemble critical system components, maintaining precision and high standards.
  2. Test system components for performance using advanced metrology equipment.
  3. Monitor material and parts for defects and non-conformance.
  4. Maintain organized and detailed testing records.
  5. Ensure inventory of all necessary subcomponents and materials.
  6. Escalate problems and suggest improvements.
  7. Work with manufacturing first shift team from 6am-2:30pm PST.
Field Deliverables – Months 6-12
  1. Participate in on-call rotations.
  2. Demonstrate competency in 2+ subsystems within 2 months.
  3. Complete Level 2 (or higher) training within 6 months.
  4. Complete Level 3 (or higher) training within 9 months.
  5. Deploy to customer sites for on-site assignments.
Essential Functions
  • Test, operate, and maintain 3D printers and related equipment following procedures.
  • Assemble and test mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optics sub-assemblies; demonstrate mastery in at least one area.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot problems.
  • Repair equipment using hand tools and test instruments.
  • Order and replace parts as needed.
  • Collaborate to test, tune, upgrade, and adjust equipment.
  • Consult with engineering to resolve problems or suggest improvements.
  • Install and commission equipment per specifications.
  • Follow protocols for security, safety, access, scheduling, and communication.
  • Provide training to customers, coworkers, and contractors.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities.
  • Communicate daily activities, status, and metrics.
  • Advise management on customer satisfaction and product performance.
  • Participate in developing processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Attend team and other meetings.
Education
  • Required: Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • Desired: Master’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related field.
Experience
  • Required:
  • 5+ years operating and maintaining complex machines in lab or manufacturing environments.
  • Customer-facing field service experience.
  • Hands-on repair and calibration skills.
  • Desired:
  • Startup experience, military service, semiconductor equipment experience, or 3D AM market experience.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work independently at customer sites with high accountability, valid driver’s license, and travel flexibility.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with good computer skills.
  • Attention to detail, focus on quality, and safety-mindedness.
  • Technical aptitude in troubleshooting and machine operation.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and possibly hold security clearances.
