Job Description

The Field Services Engineer is responsible for onsite support, maintenance, repair, installation, removal, and recovery of Lab37 robotic systems. This role works closely with triage, engineering, operations, and customer‑facing teams to resolve escalated field issues, restore equipment to operation, document findings, and improve service procedures. The Field Services Engineer will support deployments and help build the processes and documentation needed to enable repeatable service work by internal teams and future third‑party service partners.

What you'll do

  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and system‑level issues in the field, including basic fabrication, soldering, cable repair, component replacement, and system checkout.
  • Support field escalations by partnering with triage, engineering, software, operations, and product teams to diagnose issues, capture context, and restore systems to operation.
  • Develop, improve, and maintain service procedures, installation instructions, maintenance manuals, repair sequencing, and field checkout documentation.
  • Provide clear and organized feedback from field work to engineering and operations teams to improve reliability, serviceability, and deployment quality.
  • Support the development of repeatable field service processes that can be executed by internal technicians, remote staff, and third‑party installation or service contractors.
  • Travel to customer or field sites as required, including short‑notice support for deployments, maintenance events, escalations, and system recovery.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites is expected.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent field experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of field engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting and repairing complex electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, service procedures, and system documentation.
  • Strong hands‑on skills, including use of standard tools, basic fabrication, cable repair, component replacement, and system testing.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to document field issues, explain repair steps, and coordinate with remote engineering and operations teams.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods in field, customer, or production environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with manufacturing and/or electronics soldering.
  • Basic experience in a CAD tool (Solidworks preferred).
