Job summary

ZEISS Group in Fremont, CA is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair advanced semiconductor optical systems at customer sites. The role combines mechanical, electrical, software, and customer support duties.

The position involves traveling to customer locations, collaborating with the Germany factory, and providing technical training and documentation as needed. Excellent English communication is required.

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing complex technical systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Semiconductor industry experience strongly preferred.
• Optics industry experience a plus.
• Willingness to travel internationally, including training trips to Germany.

Responsibilities

• Replace components and perform complex repairs on advanced optical systems.
• Support customers remotely by phone/email and onsite when needed.

• Serve as the communication bridge between the customer, the local ZEISS team, management, and the factory team in Germany.

What’s the role?

This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing highly advanced ZEISS semiconductor systems used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The engineer will work directly at customer sites, primarily in the Fremont, CA area, supporting cutting edge of technologies and continuous advancements. The position is very hands‑on and combines mechanical, electrical, software, and customer support responsibilities.

Do you qualify?

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing complex technical systems
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation
• Semiconductor industry experience is strongly preferred
• Optics industry experience is a plus
• Comfortable working independently in the field and handling customer‑facing situations
• Strong hands‑on troubleshooting mentality and ability to work under pressure
• Flexible with service schedules and customer support needs
• Comfortable traveling internationally, including training trips to Germany
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English

Compensation

• Salary Range: The annual pay range for this position is $76,000 – $95,000
• Actual compensation will depend on factors such as location, experience, education, skills, and role scope
• Eligible for performance bonus or sales commissions
