Job summary

Luminex Corporation in Chicago is seeking a Field Service Engineer to provide on-site service, maintenance, and repair of instruments across a multi-state region. You will manage parts, tools, and documentation while delivering high customer satisfaction.

The role requires at least 1 year in field service or a related role, strong mechanical aptitude, and English fluency; travel up to 75% may be needed, including international, with a competitive rewards package.

Qualifications

  • Technical school or military training in Electronics Technology or Computer Science is required.
  • Biotechnical training or associate degree in engineering is a plus.
  • 1+ years in Field Service, In-house Biomed, or customer-facing role.
  • High mechanical aptitude and good problem solving/communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and local language is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Install and repair scientific instrumentation at customer locations within a multi-state region.
  • Manage an expense account, service tools and spare parts inventories.
  • Interface daily with internal and external customers.
  • Use the CRM system to document calls and ensure accurate history.
  • Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Comply with field service standards and company policies.

Job Scope

The Field Service Engineer provides service to customers with regards to preventative maintenance, retrofit installation, troubleshooting and repair with minimal support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies
  • Install and repair scientific instrumentation manufactured by Luminex Corporation at customer locations within a multi-state geographic region.
  • Manage an expense account, service tools and spare parts inventories.
  • Interface daily with internal and external customers
  • Utilize the CRM system to capture full documentation of all calls and entering appropriate codes to ensure accurate history of reporting trends and corrective actions
  • Meeting daily service repair needs and driving customer satisfaction through service excellence
  • Exercising of judgement within defined procedures, standards and company to policies and procedures is mandatory
  • Compliance of field service technical standards is required
  • Meeting departmental expectations regarding the following:
    • Response time
    • PM completion Rates
    • Service callbacks
    • Customer Satisfaction Survey Results
  • Service is provided Monday through Friday, typically between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., occasionally requiring extended workdays.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Technical school or military technical training equivalent in Electronics Technology or Computer Science required
  • Biotechnical training or associate degree or higher in an engineering discipline a plus preferred
  • 1+ Years Experience in one of the following: Field Service, In-house Biomed, Customer facing role required
  • High mechanical aptitude and good problem solving/communication skills (High proficiency)
  • Fluency in English as well as local language of the residential country is required (High proficiency)
  • Knowledge of electronic measuring equipment (Low proficiency)
  • Ability to work with a team (Medium proficiency)
  • Customer relationship skills. (Medium proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Passport or eligibility required required
Standard Physical Demands
  • Possible exposure to Chemicals, Lasers, Excessive Noise, etc. - Rarely
  • Possible exposure to mechanical, biologic and chemical hazards
Travel Requirements
  • 75% Travel may be required, including international.
  • Requires travel on short notice; overnight travel may be required depending on service region requirements

The hiring range for this position is $75,000-$110,000 annually.
