Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Downey, CA is seeking a Field Service Diesel Technician/Mechanic to diagnose and execute complex repairs to engine products at customer sites and in service shops. This role requires up-to-date Cummins product knowledge, strong diagnostics, and alignment with safety policies.

You will maintain records, communicate detailed results, and pursue ongoing certifications while relocating if needed. A CDL may be required, and a valid driver’s license is mandatory.

Job Summary:

Technical specialist and primary customer support contact to diagnose and execute complex repairs to engine products at the customer’s site.

We are looking for a talented Field Service Diesel Technician/Mechanic to join our Distribution business in (Downey, CA).

Will make an impact in the following ways:

• Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop

• Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools

• Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles

• Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies

• Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products

• Maintain own tools

In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Completes complex internal engine repairs

• Performs complex unassisted engine overhauls

• Ability to troubleshoot with limited/no support from diagnostic tools

• Detailed understanding of the aftertreatment system and components

• Mentor junior technicians including technical support and documentation

• Minimum 5 yrs experience

• Knowledge of Cummins Engines and repair practices >Engine knowledge includes Diesel, Nat Gas and EV products

• Knowledge of Cummins warranty policies and procedures

• Computer literate (Insite, QSOL, MS Office, Teams, Accelera)

• Ability to communicate detailed troubleshooting and repair results both internal and external

• A current valid license is required for this role

• Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience

• This role requires a 5-year motor vehicle report, free from major violations

• This position is subject to Federal Transit Administration random and pre-employment drug testing requirements. This roll will be subject to on-going random drug and alcohol testing.

• A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire

• Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)

Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution

Locally valid driving permit

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Significant field service work experience

Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products

Customer service experience

Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
