Job Description

The Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry business develops and manufactures innovative instruments, consumables, and software solutions for customers working in the analytical sciences (routine testing markets) and scientific research. We serve a crucial function in various scientific fields, including chemistry, pharmaceuticals, forensics, environmental analysis, and biochemistry, among others. This position will reside and work within the west coast region of the US.

How will you make an impact?

The role of a Field Scientist, Applications is to provide scientific expertise and support to customers, sales teams, and internal partners within CMD to resolve sophisticated analytical challenges by applying liquid chromatography and sample prep techniques.

This opening is for a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to support innovative LCMS instrumentation as a Field Support Scientist. As a member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific North American Application Support Team, the candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary matrix team that includes regional sales representatives, marketing and service professionals, product development scientists, and engineers.

Primary responsibilities will be to provide post-sales support of recently installed Orbitrap systems in the Protein Mass Spectrometry market, with an emphasis on Biopharma applications including experience with Oligonucleotide analysis, and protein/peptide quantification.

What will you do?

  • Product Training:Conduct product training for LSMS products and software in the biopharma application space, including customer application configuration and customer method transfer. These trainings will be provided to customers virtually or remotely, in their laboratories, or at another onsite training center on the accurate use and application of instruments and software.
  • Application Optimization: Collaborate with customers and internal teams to customize applications and methodologies. This includes troubleshooting, method development, and data interpretation specific to analyte separation and purification. May entail collecting data from customer experiments or field trials, analyzing the data using statistical methods, and providing insights or recommendations based on the findings. They should be able to interpret scientific data accurately, communicate results and resolve customer issues & complaints.
  • Technical Presentations: Deliver presentations to highlight the capabilities and benefits of solutions for various applications. Effectively communicate scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Scientific Support:Stay informed about the latest scientific literature, methodologies, and regulatory requirements. Acts as a trusted guide to users to increase customer proficiency driving the overall success of the business.

How will you get here?

Education

  • A master’s degree (or higher) in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific field and work experience.

Experience

  • 2-5 years of hands-on relevant technical experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 3+ years hands-on LC-MS experience is required.
  • Experience with Biopharma LC-MS applications required. Peptide/Protein Quan and proteomics is also helpful.
  • Experience with Orbitrap-based mass spectrometers is a plus.
  • This position requires outstanding written and oral communication skills are required.
  • A proven record of analytical and problem solving skills must be demonstrated.
  • Ability to work independently, lead multiple projects simultaneously, and meet team goals.
  • Outstanding teamwork and collaboration skills to nurture creativity and compliment the team's success.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues and provide mentorship on product usage and optimization.
  • Persuasive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey intricate scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • This position may require up to 75% travel in the west coast territory.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Colorado is $75,800.00–$126,300.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
