Job summary

SGS is seeking a Field Technician to collect samples and perform observation of products or raw materials for laboratory analysis. You will collect samples that are transferred to containers, vessels, barges, trucks, or rail and ensure labeling and data are complete for tracking.

You will deliver samples to the SGS laboratory, prepare samples, and conduct basic screening or related tests while maintaining clean equipment and proper PPE.

Qualifications

• Intermediate English required; advanced preferred.
• Basic mathematics skills required; intermediate preferred.
• Ability to solve problems using a practical, logical approach; intermediate level required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing or verbally with customers.
• Ability to follow directions to achieve accurate results within required timeframes.
• Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to work independently under moderate supervision.
• Teamwork and customer care focus.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples from products or raw materials transferred to containers, vessels, barges, trucks, or rail.
• Label sample containers and related paperwork with data, location, date, and time.
• Deliver samples to laboratory for analysis.
• Prepare samples, reduce and divide into appropriate sizes.
• Gather samples at specified locations and times during processing.
• Perform sample screening and related tests.
• Keep equipment and containers organized and clean before and after use.
• Wear PPE at all times.
• Follow local and federal safety processes and procedures.
• Adhere to internal standards, policies and procedures.
• May perform preparation or laboratory responsibilities as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
