Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries (Newport News Shipbuilding) seeks a Safety Technician 2 to implement and monitor industrial safety programs at our Newport News facility. You’ll ensure personnel safety, evaluate equipment for safety and maintain records of inspections and corrective actions.

You will also support fire prevention, emergency response, and ongoing safety training to reinforce safe work practices and compliance with OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree plus 1 year of relevant experience.
• NNS Apprentice School graduate may substitute to meet minimum qualifications.
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate may substitute to meet minimum qualifications.
• High School/GED with 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades or Military experience.
• High School/GED with 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades or Military experience.

Responsibilities

• Implements and monitors safety programs to ensure personnel safety and compliance.
• Monitors OSHA standards and shipyard regulations; evaluates new equipment for safety.
• Performs surveys and inspections to identify unsafe conditions and recommend action.
• Responds to emergencies involving hazardous materials or fires and supports incident reporting.
