Qualifications

  • Coaches LOB supervisors on new safety programs.
  • Reviews and approves Contractor Safety Plans.

Department Overview

The Wildfire, Emergency and Operations (WEO) organization is responsible for oversight of PG&E’s wildfire operations and associated mitigations. The organization is responsible for the development and maintenance of consistent processes and work standards associated with sustainable wildfire and emergency response preparedness operations in line with our regulatory policies and practices. Operational Safety, Enterprise Corrective Action Program, Safety Programs, Contractor Safety, and Transportation Safety & Compliance is also embedded within Wildfire, Emergency and Operations.

WEO partners with leaders in Energy Delivery and other parts of the business to develop and recommend a strategic direction for emergency preparedness, emergency response and public partnerships. Wildfire, Emergency and Operations is comprised of roughly 1,792 coworkers.

Position Summary

Works to detect, prevent and mitigate safety risks. Provides subject matter expertise on field observations and provides consultation and guidance on corrective action development. Collaborates with and supports line of businesses on safety issues. Communicates safety trends and recommends corrective actions. Serves as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide safety initiatives.

This position is onsite. The assigned work location will be within 50 miles of Auburn.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from:

Bay Area Minimum: $43.27
Bay Area Maximum: $65.38

California Minimum: $41.35
California Maximum: $62.02

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts field and driver observations and document in the system of record
  • Supports accident investigation team as subject matter expert to help determine causal factors.
  • Ensures mutual collaboration with line of business and integrate in all levels of the organization in regards to safety (field employees, grassroots)
  • Communicates safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions.
  • Coach LOB supervisors on new safety programs.
  • Serves as a Safety subject matter expert for LOB supervisors and field employees.
  • Consults with LOB Supervisors on incident investigations, SIAP completion and corrective actions development.
  • May attend Safety Kickoffs or morning meetings with crews to discuss new safety information.
  • May support the implementation of companywide safety initiatives developed by others with S&H
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving Contractor Safety Plans
  • May participate in and support emergency activation under the Incident Command System as field safety and Safety Officer support
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
    Relevant experience, 3 years
    Must have, or obtain within 1 year from date of hire, an initial level, or higher, safety professional certification (CUSP, CHST, OHST or equivalent)

Desired:

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Safety professional certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Management)
  • Solid knowledge of PG&E safety procedures and the Code of Safe Practices.
  • Solid knowledge of Cal/OSHA general industry and construction safety orders and basic knowledge of other recognized safety regulations and standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, Fed/OSHA, etc.).
  • Proficient at conducting and evaluating root cause analysis investigations and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Proficient at conducting hazard evaluations for complex jobs and recommending appropriate controls.
  • Knowledge of job safety analysis.
  • Knowledge of quality corrective action understanding.
  • Knowledge of office and field ergonomics.
  • Demonstrates skill in delivering clear, understandable oral presentations to groups.
